I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

THIS is a very accurate photo, regarding the actual colour of the body.
Funny thing is, this is the photo that the Tokai Importer himself took, to show me how the guitar look like (after i emailed him the 1st time with some questions)

Again, thank you very much to all for the kind words and excitement that everyone expresses !

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

As a FYI. Some Gibby historic pup rings will match the guard and binding much better. For some reason they (& edwards) cannot seem to source rings which are not that weird yellow creme.. I had the historic rings on mine.

Thinking the same thing as you Jeff.

I am already looking at places like ebay & RS Guitar Works for replacement units.
Also at Graphtech for Saddle Savers, and what not.

I really like the stock pick ups, but . . .

That's gorgeous.

Where'd you get it from?

Not even gonna say what I would do to it for instant upgrades , like the machines and bridge.

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

Very nice!

I really like the Tokai LP I recently got. I also like the pickups pretty much, contrary to what I expected. Do you know what models are in your guitar? Do tell how the WLH set compares when you've done the swap.

If you're doing upgrades already, make strap locks your first one.

Strap locks ? . . . nothing but Schaller for me !

Sadly, i have NO idea what pick ups are in mine.
The local site just say : PICKUPS: PAF-Vintage MK2×2(Made In Japan)
Sounding the way they do, i assume it is A2's in there.
Imho, they sound too PHATT for A5's.
And i pretty sure they are NOT Ceramic.

I want to swap out the pick ups tomorrow . . . hopefully i will have time to do so.

Thank you very much !

Got it FED EX'ed from Johannesburg (direct from the Importer himself), because there is not a Tokai dealer in my city.

I like the Schaller locks also. I always put them on right away when I get a new guitar.

My guitar also has the Mark twos. I believe they're made by Gotoh. The way I understood they're among the better ones Tokai puts on their guitars. Lots of people seem to be satisfied by them. To me they sound full and warm with an excellent midrange growl. Most of my playing with the new guitar has been unamplified so I haven't been able to really put them through their paces but I've liked what I've heard so far.

Got any images of your Tokai ?

Would love to see it ;)

PS. . . . going to order my strap locks on Monday. My local store to not have them, but can order them when requested.

I'm going to post a new pic thread about it when I find time to take pics with some sun and find a way to post them online. It's been crazy with work lately.

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

Based on every Tokai I've ever seen/handled/played, Tokais rock! Do not ever sell it. You will regret it if you do.

Don't know why I've never looked for one to buy. I guess it's partly because they're so few and far between in these parts, mostly because anyone who's got one doen't want to sell.

' This is a great option to upgrade or replace the existing bridge on your Epiphone, ESP, LTD, BC Rich, Carvin, Schecter as well as many other import guitars '.

Don't they use all Gotoh hardware?

If I were going to do anything to the bridge on that thing I would be putting a GHOST setup on it.

FYI, from your pictures above that's not an import spec metric bridge on there.

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

Man, he just got that guitar and already suggesting new tailpieces and ****?
That guitar is good enough as it is.
Don't think too much about nut materials and cap values.
Drop those WLH in if you must, then play it.
Then play it a bit more. And a bit more afterwards. That's a sure tonal upgrade. :D

Re: I pulled the trigger, so . . . HNGD to me !

I had a lw tailpiece, that helped a lot as mine was dense and darker toned. The bridge screws did give way on mine too. So might wanna grab a couple spares. Also the tuners were changed. The original gotohs were eh.

IME, the hardware is the place to put some extra $ ...or pounds in this case. Its not like Epiphone bad by any means, but it will make a very good guitar, a great one.
