I take my hat off to the Peavey Valveking!

I'll keep this short and sweet because I need to go to work.

My mate wanted to buy a decent amp to use in a Maiden tribute band. So before he went and bought a cheap second hand JCM900 I told him to check out this great Peavey dealer we have here in Melbourne because I thought they might have something worthwhile and cheaper than anything else new. I was thinking about maybe a XXX combo or something but then I walked in and saw the Valveking and remembered all the praise these things have got from this and other forums...but I'd never tried one for myself.

Well, like I said, the hat is off Peavey :amish:

This is a 100watt all valve 212 combo. It has an awesome sounding clean channel. It has an awesome sounding gain channel which gets into as much useable high gain territory as anyone would want. It can even go between class A and class A/B operation...and you can blend between the two (not sure if this is real or just emulated, but it's still cool).

And the kicker...it cost as much brand new as a Marshall AVT 100 single 12" combo...need I say more.

This thing is awesome for the money...and even if it were more expensive it would still be an awesome amp. Go and try one if you haven't, just so you can tell others how friggin awesome they are!

Bravo Peavey...bravo :reporter:

(now I'm late for work...see what I do for you guys! :smack: )

I played with one for about a week, I picked up for a band I do sound for. I thought it was pretty cool. Not much better bang for buck out there, but they really need to ship foot switches with them - Peavey has been slacking in the last few years! Glad you like it!

Yes, i must say, i played the 1x12,2x12, and the 1/2stack, and they ALL sound great, dialing in the "tubes" really gives ya some SICK tonal options...after my guitar's paid off i'm deffinatly picking up the 100watt head 2 complement my crate BV120-HR..yay for stereo:P

Eastgate...ahh hahaha...AH HA HA...BAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

Eastgate are the biggest bunch of ****s in the country! They may stock some nice stuff, but they don't know JACK! For one, I took a Komet in there once and they had never even heard of one...then, after two seconds of playing with the Komet the Eastgate guy told me that no pedal would work with the amp and started trying to sell me Bat Cats :smack:

This place I'm talking about is in Footscray I think...and if my memory serves it's in Byron St...but don't quote me on that. If you are after the actual place just PM me and I'll get the details off my two mates who have both bought stuff from there. It's actually a great place and the guys are really helpful, I don't remember its actual name though. They don't put crazy overheads on their products though and just to give you an example of their prices, the 1x12 Peavey Valveking is selling new for $700, and the 2x12 for $999...but they went down to $950 for the 2x12. I saw a Classic 50 2x12 there for about $800 too...all brand new with warranties I might add. (Australian dollars folks, just in case any of you were thinking that it was actually quite expensive ;) ).

New XXX/JSX/6505 heads for around the $2000 mark too and they are also the only place I've seen who stock Framus stuff. It's a great shop, and a bit of a secret too since it's in such a weird place.

Re: I take my hat off to the Peavey Valveking!

I've had a 50 watt Valveking combo for about a year, wasn't thrilled in the beginning. Replacing the tubes with a complete set of JJ's made me decide to keep it. Sounds like a completely different amp. Have also found the best tone I have heard out of it yet by turing the texture knob down to class "A" and the cabinet switch to "loose" then plugging the guitar into the LOW input on the front (#2 input) with a mdoerately powerful a5 pickup (my screamin' demon works best) Keep the gain KNOB up only about half way, but go ahead and switch on the "gain boost". Holy Crap that thing sound awesome like that, and at very moderate volume levels!! Works MUCH better that trying to hit the front end with my TS808.
