I think I've resigned to being a "pedals through clean amp" guy

Re: I think I've resigned to being a "pedals through clean amp" guy

Same way here also. I have an Edana (no channel switching and a gorgeous clean/dirty tone all on it's own) and some dirt pedals. Dirt pedals I currently have are a modded DS-1, Arion Tubulator, Danelectro Fab Tone (modded) and DOD Bifet. I'm trying to build a Rangemaster for yet another original cool tone, but it's just not working right. Don't know what's wrong but it's weak no matter how I set it. I bought a EH holy grail reverb for this setup, but it's not right either. Spring reverb setting isn't any different than the Hall reverb setting.

Nothing like getting real tone from solid state pedals.

Comments like this and "if you need pedals you have the wrong amp" are simply ignorant and short-sighted. It boils down to the fact that some people think that everyone wants their guitars to sound the same.

By the same token, I could tell people that if they're swapping pickups, they bought the wrong guitar. Sounds pretty stupid from both angles.

I guess it saves thinking for super intelligent people like yourself to see everything from a negative perspective.

My post was meant in a positive sense. In my opinion there is nothing like the tone I get from a solid state pedal. I do not like the digital pedals at all and the low voltage tube based pedals even less.

I do not wish to mess up the flame thing going on here. But, it seems to me this is not so much an issue of pedals really. They are a tool, just like the pickups in a guitar to me. But, with the pedals like a Twin Tube it is a pretty fine line seperating an amp is compared to a pedal any more. Tube echo, tube reverb, really fine line anymore.
