I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
what do you guys suggest? I'm cool with just a piece of wood and another underneathe to put a little angle on it.

But what do you guys suggest for power?

Maybe 6-8 pedals at most, standard size. I'm thinking maybe three boards for different reasons.

Blues Board
Metal Board
Jazz Board

I just want to leave each set in so I can plug in without all the connecting/disconnecting and battery wastage if I forget....

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

I can only recommend the one I use (which is also the only one I've ever tried): Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Are you saying that you want each pedal board to have it's own power supply? If that's the case, I'd go cheap with Visual Sound 1 Spot Combo packs. Or even better would be to buy one 1 spot combo pack, and then two of the multi plugs.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

...i'm a bit confused too but thats nothing new...

you want all 3 mini pedal boards to run off 1 power source?

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Just buy some power connector daisy chains and hook up your pedals. Leave 'em together on your miniboards. Buy a single 1-spot and take the 1-spot with whichever board you happen to need for a night.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Just put together one big board that has everything, and use a Pedal Power. That's what I do, and it works fine.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

I've accumulated a lot of pedals that I don't need on my main board, so I've been creating smaller ones with only 2 or 3.

My favorite boards are actually parts from computer desks I find being thrown away.
Particularly platforms and shelves that are particle board covered in that durable black finish. Then, all I need is 4 rubber feet and some 3M industrial velcro.

I'll post pics pretty soon. Some of the platforms come in odd shapes which makes the boards more unique than a simple rectangle.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Comprehension of OPs question . . . . . FAIL

I get it, I just don't understand the point of having multiple boards with two or three pedals on them. Just put it into one board and get one power supply. Save time and money.

for a couple more dollar than just a piece of plywood, and a little of your time you can get a bunch of floorboards (or whatever) cut to lengths, stack them up and screw them together for something like this:

P9110267.jpg

P9110269.jpg

it looks neat and tidy, is not heavy, is solid and ive made it to fit into a regular suitcase. Its a custom fit for this pedal selection, and to build one to fit whatever setup you have is no big deal at all. Its strong enough to walk on.
To build another longer one would be easy, just change the length of the crosspieces and go again.
Oh yeh...power is a DC brick underneath - they are not too expensive and ive had no issues with noise etc.
The pedals are attached with velcro, but the DC brick is attached with cable ties. All the cables and wires are hidden underneath also.
This one is 43cm by 30 cm with an upper tier that is 20cm across. All of the pieces of wood are 12mm high and 4cm wide. The short ones under the top tier are 15cm long.Of course its up to you to get all the right sizes. Any rough edges can be sanded down and smoothed out if they are cut neatly. All you need is a couple of lengths of wood, some countersunk woodscrews and some nails (to set it in place) and a nice sharp saw. Or, work out the lengths and get the wood chopped up at the timberyard on the drop saw.

Because I have

a) A set of pedals i like to use with my Pro Jr.: TS-9, Drive-o-matic, Tremodillo, Holy Grail

b) I have a set I like to Jazz with: CS-3, DD-3, CF-7

c) I have a set I like to metal with....

I don't use any of the pedals from one with the other...

The question is do i need power for EACH? Or is there a single power solution (One post suggests YES!)

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

Well, what you could do is buy one 1-Spot and two extra daisy chains. Hook each of your boards up with a daisy chain, and power whichever one you need at the moment.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

I don't angle the board, I just make tiers and leave the bottom flat.

Voodoo Lab Pedal Power & T-Rex are the supplies I've used that have been problem-free for me.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

I love Gibson175's idea with planks screwed together. Way cheaper and cooler than buying a Pedaltrain board. I agree with Frank F about not angling boards, but using tiers.

I can't wait to finish the mini boards I'm working on right now. I'm actually tired of having one big board, because only my last band required that much. Now, I'm creating small boards that are entirely suited to a playing scenario, so I can throw them together in a pinch to suit my immediate needs. I rarely need a ton of pedals.

I'll post pics of one really soon. I shouldn't give it away before the pics, but I'll just say that copper, gold, orange, and yellow are the theme. And it's sick.

Re: I want to make a couple of budget Pedal Boards...

If you don't gig each of those styles of music why bother??

I mean the best thing to do IMHO would be to put it all on one big board with a high quality power supply and call it a day...

I mean it sounds like you're going to end up with 3 half ass pedalboards and in the end you'll spend as much as one good board would cost.

I mean ask yerself this...do you want one well made, low noise, high quality pedalboard or do you want 3 half ass, noise trap home brew boards that will never really be gig worthy??

The only other option really is to buy 3 quality boards but thats going to run into a lot of $$$$

What he said.

I still don't get why you want three mini boards - just because you don't use all the pedals at the same time doesn't mean they can't be on a board together.

I've got a Fuzz Face, BB Preamp, Nobels ODR-1, Catalinbread Formula 5, Zvex Box of Rock, and another pedal coming in - all on one board. Even if I used different amps, I'd still keep them all there. Why? Because you don't use them all at the same time.

I'd rather have one board that can do it all than three genre specific boards.

And keep in mind that even 10 pedals is a pretty small board. If they're all standard MXR size, you could most likely fit them on a Pedaltrain Jr, and easily on a PT-1 or PT-2.

I just don't see the point of limiting yourself to one genre, then having to mess with all that gear if you want to play something else. Make one board, leave it set up all the time.

Frank, your board is crammed like a fat girl's plate at a buffet.:cool2:

But definitely not angled...
