i was joking at first, but now i'm really thinking about it

Looking for Real Life
i've been rethinking my rig a lot lately, and it's really just not doin it for me anymore

the bassman is okay, but i haven't played it since i got the traynor. Well, i did today, and it's just not my style anymore

love the 4x12, but it's 4 ohms to match the bassman, and honestly even with the mismatch i find it to be a bit overkillish. Plus it just sounds better with 8 ohm cabs, breathes a lot better

the hh tele used to be the best guitar in the universe, but now i'm not diggin that either

the only things i'm still diggin are my strat, the gretsch, and the traynor. I think i'd be set with a blackface fender, an oversized 2x12 for the traynor, and this hsh strat i've been planning for about a year

only thing is, i'm trying to save money to go on the road this summer. I have $1500, and i could part with the 5 because i sold some bass stuff & yeah, continuing the gear circle, but i'd have to sell all that other stuff too in order to get what i'm wanting, and that's assuming a generous ammount of ebaying & maybe one of those silver to blackface conversions

bah. I dunno what to do. I hate balancing hobbies

What's your Traynor? A YCV? Those really are killer amps.

You could put different speakers in your 4x12" and wire it to eight ohms.

Re: i was joking at first, but now i'm really thinking about it

it's a bassmaster with some basic typical mods

to me it sounds halfway between a plexi and an orange

and i don't really want a 4x12 anymore, nor the hassle of trying to sell speakers

Re: i was joking at first, but now i'm really thinking about it

4x12"s are a big commitment, hard to haul around plus buying/selling four speakers just plain sucks.

Sounds cool, I'd keep with the Traynor.

Re: i was joking at first, but now i'm really thinking about it

what kinda 4x12 is it? I need a 4ohm load for my bassman and would much rather have a 4x12 than the ghetto-ass rig i'm using.

of course what i need is a Blues Jr. or maybe even a Valve Jr. 'cuz I can never play as loudly as i want to but that's besides the point.

It'll be kinda rough to move that Bassman now that it's been modded so heavily....but if it handles bass well enough i could be interested in that too.

Re: i was joking at first, but now i'm really thinking about it

it's been modded for more clean headroom so with bass it should be fine, assuming some 12at7's in the preamp. I've seen someone use an unmodded one for bass so yeah, they're capable.

4x12 is an avatar with emi wizards (75 watt g12h30's). It sounds groovy as hell, you'd love it
