...on my gold top that is.

I bought this thing a few years ago and have not really messed with it. I did drop in a set of Antiquities when I first got it, but I never set it up and it just sat.

Doug (see what I did there har har) it out and decided to swap out the cream plastic for black and since I had a set of Aldrich pickups in the drawer, I figured "why not?"

I had to order some covers because I was not feeling the black coils with black rings. Can't beat raw nickel for $7!

I jammed on it for a good couple hours and the gods are pleased.

I have played strats for too many years, so my right hand finger tips are used to having the pickguard close at hand. As a result, I don't like single-cuts without guards. Can't speak for the thread author's reasons though.

Uh, because it looks cool :biglaugh:

I only have two LPs with guards, and that is because they were on there when I bought them.

My experience with the Doggie wasn’t that great in my SG2000; a Les Paul’s rival, one of a few acclaimed Yamaha’s solid body.
In the 84 SG, it sounded nothing special but had big sounding clean and handled dirt pretty well.

I have an Aldrich bridge Im itching to put in something. Trying to decide the right neck pup to use. Never tried the Aldrich neck. heard mixed reviews...

A complete set is a safe bet and when played them in my Yamaha SG2000, it was well balanced voice and both PU coil tapped in all three positions was quite useful.
Recommend without a doubt from my experience.

I have full Aldrich sets in two LPs, love them. I'm thinking about putting one in the bridge position only of my LP Custom. Currently I have a Fralin set, High Output, in that guitar, but I think I want to try an Aldrich in there too. Not a full set yet, because I really like the Fralin High Output neck pickup. The Aldrich has a nice and creamy high end, not as bright as the Fralin, The Fralin seems too bright now in comparison.

I normally have vintage style PAF based pups in my Les Pauls, but a friend has a set of a Aldrich in one of his LPs and loves them. I figured I would try them out as they are in the JB family and I like those (just not in an LP)

So far I have no complaints.

If you have to ask....you don't get the Aldrich. Or Les Paul's for that matter. The pick guard issue is one of much variation and variety. For example, some are No-Guard people. Some are guard people. Other times, the guitar decides to be guard or no guard. I have had one Les Paul that has gone back and forth on the guard. Current;y all of my Les Pauls are w/ Guard - including my Frehley. Yet none of my Cadillacs (Essentially Les Pauls) have them....

But as mentioned - if you are going full Aldrich, there is a guard and it is Black on Gold.
