hello

i would like to try new pickups for the js 1200 Ibanez Satriani

I know Satriani put some pearly gates

do you think a sh1 and sh6 will be good?
how to find pickups for a warmer sound (like a les paul for example) fatter sound but with split too

and middle position like a strat

and a lot of sustain, outpout and harmonics in the bridge pos?
sh6 ?
the fred has a weak sound too tight
i need some boost pedal for these pickups whereas sh1 and sh4 are fantastic by themselves!
the notes are warm and hot and i don't find that with the dimarzio

The obvious first question is, what amplification and pedals are you currently using?

i used to play with a Laney lc 15 -110
and my farvourite pedal is a jackammer MArshall or tube king ibanez

paf joe is good but i prefer the warm sound of the sh1
but i may lost the qualities of the paf joe = strat sound with the volume and clean, split too

sh1 for a strat sound and split was not very good with mahogany and maple

and the fred is not very fat in the sound compared to a sh4 or sh6 so i need a boost for a warmer sound between the notes
let's play 3 notes with the 498 or sh4: it's ok
with the fred, it's not good:( not warm

linking notes makes problem
the sound is little compared to sh4-sh6

Some years ago, SATRIANI put a pearly gates or 2
my favourite pickups for mahogany/maple are 498, sh4-sh6 and emg 85 too

or maybe the basswood of the js 1200 don't make a warm sound like mahogany or maple?

everybody talk about the sh4
i had the sh6 it was good and powerful !!
are there others good pickups for the bridge with outpout harmonics? good split?some clean and warm sound too?

jb. excellent split sound. plenty of harmonics.
Use 250k pots and you have a winning combination of agression, warmth and power. Good sounds when you roll back the volume too.

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

i don't think the split of the sh4 is good
too much outpout to be a strat sound

i haven't tried the sh2, sh8,full shred or others

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

I would suggest a JB bridge + Full Shred neck OR Custom Custom + Jazz. The Jazz neck is much closer to the PAF Joe than the Full Shred. If you're not stuck on Seymour Duncan and want to keep the powerful midrange of Dimarzios, try a Gravity Storm set. The Gravity Storms sound like what you are looking for. I've been playing a set of them for two weeks now and I really like them.

The Gravity Storm is like the Breeds without the things people dislike about the Breeds. They're warm and not harsh at all, but have a beautifully cutting midrange and rich, full detail. They have sort of a magic touch so whatever your fingers play they express with fluidity and dimension.

However, if you're stuck on Seymour Duncan pickups and want something somewhat unique for that guitar, try a set of Seth Lovers. I know the Seth is a vintage PAF, but it's tight and very expressive. They work really well with a fairly saturated overdrive, and they are surprisingly tight enough to play metal with. I'm a huge Satch fan and he is probably the biggest influence in my playing and I find the Seth Lovers to be a really good match for my style.

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

thanks
i like the satch tone but the fred is difficult
i played with a sh4 and emg 85 with maple body and a sh6 with mahogany
the sh4 is terrible ! for me, it's the best but the split is not good (too much outpout) and i think the sh6 is not good for that too

i think i will try the sh4-sh6 and sh2 : yes it's a good choice for the neck position

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

jb and maple body = no fun. Bright pup, 500k pots and bright wood = no thank you.
In an alder body with 250k pots however = epic win.

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

I think the split tone of the JB is great. A very usable tone and no split it is not what I call high out put but medium regular output. It is the JB in full humbucking mode that is High output

Re: ibanez js 1200 Satriani with seymour duncan pickups

my guitar in maple has a good and warm fat sound (not as good as GIbson) and with the jb but the sound is not very clean
it's because it's a cheap guitar

i can't imagine the jb with a sg or les paul ! it must be fantastic
