IBANEZ RG OR STRAT

hey guys im looking to get my first guitar
i ve narrowed down to 3 (1)ibanez Rg370pbz,(2)s521,(3)fender modern player strat
my style: alternate rock,hard rock,a little blues,even less metal
amp: fender mustang I v2
budget:500$
( ik the strat is chinese made but i still loved the sound)
(mexican strat is above my budget)
which one of these would you take?
any other suggestions?
ididnt like the epiphones idk why!
have any of you had any bad experiences with any of these
ik this thread has been asked a million times but still please answer

The necks on the Ibanez are vastly different from the Strats
Thinner flatter

Not a fan of the infinity pickups

Used Mexican Strats are $300 range

If you like the Ibanez , which I do, then it will do those styles

May need new pickups though

The infinity bridge is OK I guess
The neck pickup is a bit muddy for my taste

It mostly depends on neck profile, which is more comfortable for you. I'd go with the strat as it's your first guitar, so the neck is a good middle ground in terms of thickness

I love me my Ibbys!
If the Strat was MIM or really anything but Chinese, maybe. But MY preference would be one of the Ibby's as I prefer their neck profile. Also, I believe, they are slightly wider at the nut (someone correct me if I'm wrong) which gives my fat fingers a bit more room.

But the above advice from Punchline applies...it comes down to which feels better to you.

These are three pretty different guitars and it all depends on what you want to get out of it. First of all, you have to decide if you like the strat neck or the Ibanez necks. Those are two very different styles and one maybe more comfortable than the other. YOu also have to decide if you want the tremolo or not. The RG has a floating tremolo which means you can either push down (make the guitar sound lower) or pull up (make it sound higher) on the whammy bar for pitch changing. The Strat has a vintage trem which only allows for pushing down on the bar. The S has no whammy bar.

You can set up a Strat trem so that it floats enough to give you some pull-up range.

Is the Strat a silverburst with a rosewood fretboard and a humbucker at the bridge? I think I have that same guitar. I will say that it's a Chinese Fender-branded instrument, and it's a nice Strat. It plays and feels great -- frankly, a little better than my MIM Deluxe Roadhouse. The sound with the stock pickups was very good. Once I installed the Texas Specials from my Roadhouse along with good electronics, it was fantastic. It's a good-sounding Strat.

You might still be better served by the Ibanez RG. HSH is an extremely versatile pickup configuration, especially when you starting modifying. Only you can decide if you want a double-locking trem; the headaches and the rewards can both be great. Honestly, I had no idea what I could do on an electric guitar until I started playing an RG like that.

But Strats are still awesome. I have three myself.

Also a good choice. That's probably going to be an extremely comfortable guitar to play -- not just because of the body and neck shapes, but also because there's no middle pickup to get in your way, if that's an issue for you. Plus, the pickup switching options give you a lot of versatility. Being able to put a neck humbucker in parallel is a big deal when it comes to covering territory with an electric.

Don't forget that the RG has 24 frets while the Strat is 22 max (21 for standard Mexican). If you like to shred, this is important.

well i tried out the ibbys the RG370 had a good neck and good pickups but the EDGE ZERO 2 has many maintanence problems (i ve heard) the 521 is a good choice its light comfortable , has a nice feel to it and a hardtail but its not very clear on distortion and blues are not that........bluesy....
fender sounded pretty good it get kinda muddy at high distortion but only on extremes but its made in china
and i wonder if the quality is good or down right horrible
(the tremolo seems ok)

Hard to go wrong with an Ibanez. I still play my Gio bass often.

its a white body and black pickguard but the same model

Whichever one speaks to you is the correct one. Pickups can be changed. Which one feels warm in your hands?

Even if you don't plan to use frets 23-24, having them there often means smoother access to the frets leading up to them. On the other hand, 24-fret guitars sometimes lack a certain sweetness and character from the neck pickup that's often easier to get out of a guitar with 21 or 22 frets.

i vote none.save your cash and get a Jem.IMHO, a Jem is, was, and will always be THE only Ibby worth owning ( specifically the old Alder body ones).

Normally I would say HSH, because it's the only one that gives you "neck humbucker" (possibly with a parallel option) and an option for one coil from the neck in parallel with the middle single (the "quack" position). However, HSS is the only configuration of the three that gives you a real single-coil in the neck position -- a sound that some players consider indispensable. So the real value of any of these pickup switching options has to be judged by how much use you personally have for it.

There is no better starting guitar, nor a more versatile guitar than a basic Strat. Start with the essentials (a Strat), and then consider later if you really want to mess with the locking trem, etc.
