Ibanez S-series

Any opinions on the S-series guitars? I've been guitar-less for the last few months after moving across the country and being forced to leave my axes behind in Ontario. I'm going through withdrawals, and have recently been looking at the s guitars for a fix. The s320 in particular - as I'm not a fan of the HSH configuration on most of the other models. Anyone have any experience, reviews, qualms, etc with this model?

the Saber is VERY thin, so if your used to a big body you'll need adjusting, whenever i play one it falls from my lap since its so small, but if you have a strap i ammagine it would be good, other then that there extremely fun guitars, great tone for almost no wood.

I have one of the s470 (I think that model has been discontinued) and it's a mice guitar. The pickups aren't bad but they could be better. I put a custom 5, hot stack, and jazz in mine and it sounds great now. The neck is very thin and wide which i like, but alot of people don't.

I have a 1987 540S for sale... Great Wizard neck... DiMarzio made IBZ pickups...

Use a SA160qmt...changed the pickups.....
I am onto one of those with neckthrough body ones....as well:D
And I am getting myself one the old ones with the Floyd as well...
I like these guitars!

S320's 470's are marvelus buys, i must say.

slipknot uses them

I have a prestige saber (MIJ) with my UGD humbucker in it. It's in storage but this guitar rocked. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another japanese saber.

i kind of like that trem they have on the better S guitars that pivots on a bearing..... i like modern designs like that..... but i have never thought of these Ibanez guitars as sounding that great.... the neck and the bridge feel great.... maybe it's the wood they use, maybe it's thin body

The S line will have a Mahogany body this turns some people off, also the S line have a 22 fert 25.5 scale. The new SV has 24 fret but no locking trim. I had 01 S520, with a pickup swap it was a great guitars.

i have a s2120 (one of last ones made in japan). pickups sucked but i put a set of full shreds in it and man it blows everything else away. playability is great, stays in tune better than anything i've ever played and weighs very little. my preferred guitar

When I decided I needed a whammy equipped shred machine again a few years ago, I ended up with an S-470. The S320 is great too, but the 470's had just been discontinued and I got one cheap. You should go pick through them, I have seen a couple 320's that were poorly made and some that were SUPER lightweight, a little too lightweight to be balanced. The prestige S models are fantastic too. RG's have always seemed a little wide and flat for my hands to be comfortable on. The s520 is great too if you don't mind the active pickups and the lack of fretboard dots.

i say buy one there great guitars and the zr trem is one of the best i've ever used.

I ended up buying an s520 locally and so far I'm loving it. It'll be better when I replace the Ibanez pickups with Duncans, but that was the plan from the start. Still getting used to the difference in feel between the ZR and the OFRs that I'm accustomed to, but the ZR is growing on me.

bear in mind, the Trem is radiused to the 430, and not to the fingerboards 400 mm, so you can get a refret and re radius and get a lower action if you want.

I recently got a Purple S470 with Dimarzios in exchange for a Yamaha bass I was selling for £130 :D

I really like the ZR tremolo system on it (lets you do double stop bends without going out of tune :D) and even the DMZs on it now aren't THAT bad. It'll be getting Bareknuckle Nailbombs and a Trilogy Suite asap though.
