Ibanez sabre with midi graphtech ghost system.

Hi all, I have been modifying this ibanez s for a mate. It utilizes a graphtech ghost system. The midi jack was installed into the original guitar jack spot and a new jack was fitted to the rear. It had to be done like this because there was no where else i could fit it. The main board sits under the strings in a cavity where all the saddle piezios meet, midi jack, volume and quick switch. The original ibanez 5way switch cover has been changed to accommodate 2 mini switches. Being such a thin guitar i was really nervous doing the routing especially on the guitar jack.

Dimarzio fred bridge and air norton neck. 2 volumes/neck has push pull coil tap and a 3way switch
Midi ghost system has 1 volume and program patch up/down switch.
hapm gotoh tuners
Graphtech floyd rose

Note: my friend changed his mind half way into the project and decided he didn't want the acoustic phonic in conjunction with the midi. So thats why there is a unused battery boy and 3rd free micro switch spot. Also i still have to clip down the ribbon cable in the back cavity.

P.s i know not everyone likes midi guitars.

that's pretty damn cool.

How do the graphtech floyds feel? sturdy and well built? They look to me that they're basically the same as the Gotoh floyds, except for the graphtech saddle inserts and the graphtech logo...

How do the graphtech floyds feel?

Well there made in Taiwan but despite that there a good tremolo. They stay in tune really well and are well built. grasphtech saddles are always good. I also thought it would be similar to the gotoh but its not there a completely different design/build.

The best thing about it is the latency or there lack of. Midi guitars have come along way since the 80's. It runs rings around the roland gk setup because tracking is supplied via the saddles. You can do bends, slides, chords, vibrato, tapping etc
Much to my disappointment the guy i built it for is wanting to mainly use it for rave parties haha.

OMG why didn't I know about this tech sooner now I don't have to go and learn to play keys I can stay on guitar. How much would a set up like this run?

Well depending on your requirments the price varies. You have to buy the whole hexpander kit and a ghost bridge. All up if you want both acoustic phonic and midi it would be around 500$ - the donar guitar. Plus in addition to that you need a good midi converter like a axon 100, and if you want decent sounds a good keyboard synth or sampler too.

My mate gave me the acoustic phonic board he rejected. So i am planning on making a nylon string strat like this.

The Midi controller is way out my price league. But thanks for the info. I had seen the Graph Tech Floyd but wondered how close it came to a OFR as far as tuning Stability not that I would go crazy with the bar but I need to be assured I can shake a chord or note and have it still be in tune afterwards.

I think there great get one there worth the money, plus the guys at graphtech are the nicest people around there always willing to help. I lost the tremolo posts during the build so i asked them about buying replacements. To my surprise the manager of graphtech wrote to me to inform me they would just send me them free. i was so surprised. nothing beats good customer service.

FYI, The Fishman Triple Play will provide wireless hex output to a computer, to trigger VST instruments, and will be available soon. Cheaper than pickup/guitar/converter/synth setup.

Yeah but how well will it track? I am guessing not to well because its using a pickup system like a gk3 roland. There has been many like this in the past and all have suxed..

I just did some research on that and there is a rumored 14ms of latency. Sounds like alot

I can answer my own question here, I still don't think it will be as good. but i will have to try it for myself. ****ing burr jumped ship maybe fiseman offered him more money?

Re: Ibanez sabre with midi graphtech ghost system.

The guy who designed the Axon designed the Fishman. Trust me, you can't hear 14ms. It will probably be the fastest thing out there, tracking-wise. I have been doing the midi guitar thing for 20 years, and currently I use RMC piezos. It isn't the pickup itself which causes latency, so it isn't a matter of using piezos or a magnetic pickup. Both types 'read' the string just fine. Delay comes in the converting process, which comes down the line.

What about string bends, tapping etc? The axon is amazing so being the same creator it should be really good for sure. Do you think it will be a lot better than this setup? Because i have used the roland gear, casio etc and they have all been useless in live work.

Re: Ibanez sabre with midi graphtech ghost system.

I still prefer how the ghost stuff is built in rather than some tacky looking thing hanging of your guitar.

I have tried the gk3 with the axon 100 and it isnt no where near as good tracking and much more latency?
