Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

Looks like most of the non-prestige RG's now have Mahogany bodies instead of the usual Basswood. I wonder if the usual pickups that sound good in those will still sound the same in mahogany?

Re: Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

If anything most pup models will sound better in mahogany than they do in basswood,,,,,,,,,IMO.
I'm one of those ultragain sludgy dethfuzz (with a small pinch of clarity lol) kinda guy,,,,,so any wood can do fine for me really.

Re: Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

Basswood IMHO needs special treatment (dowels in the body) where the neck heel screws go. Screwing through basswood is not stable enough for 7-strings with full motion floating trems. The wood will collapse sooner or later. This increases cost. So mahogany might be cheaper and stable without any additional treatment.

Most of these aren't 7 string models.

Re: Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

The cynic in me suspects that they widened the definition of "Mahogany" some more...

Re: Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

^ true. It's probably the "nato" like many of the BC Rich from Korea/Indonesia factories.
I've had two BCR that were admitted nato and both seemed a bit lighter in weight than what you'd expect if it were real hondo mahogany.

Man i don't know about all that.

Re: Ibanez Switching from Basswood to Mahogany

From what I've gathered before, Ibanez uses Philippine Mahogany for their "Mahogany" guitars.
