I'd like satin/brushed nickel 'bucker covers, can Duncan do this for me?

I'm looking at outfitting my PRS with some Duncans and I'd like to use the same brushed nickel look that my ESP Eclipse (which came stock with Duncans) has. Can SD do this as a shop floor custom? Either that or just straight-up sell me some brushed nickel covers? I love the way they look.

My Seth Lover bridge is called a "Seth Lover Worn" and came with brushed/aged cover and aged/darkened screws. It came in an orange Production Floor Custom box with a Shop Floor Custom sticker. (Not sure why the two different names.)

Yes man! I'm trying to work a shop floor custom with the people at squidmusic (on eBay). The Seymour Duncan staff also confirmed me this (about the nickel covers) via Twitter. Which pickups are you getting for the guitar?

Re: I'd like satin/brushed nickel 'bucker covers, can Duncan do this for me?

There are a number of places you can get those "raw" covers.

Mojotone.com, Philadelphialuthiertools.com, montreuxguitars.com, to name a few... just pick you poison, man! ;)

Re: I'd like satin/brushed nickel 'bucker covers, can Duncan do this for me?

Careful, I saw an aged pick up cover from Throbak I think for almost 70.00 Dollars! On the other hand, I saw a "bare" nickel HB cover from MojoTone for only 9-10 bucks. It looked pretty brushed to me, but check it out, and man, I just can't see how someone could charge that much for a cover.
The Throbak guy went on and on about the need for his proprietary method!
So did the guy from Stephens Designs. Like only he and God knew how to make a pickup! And only cause the guy at SDesigns told God about it!
I just don't get it.
6 or $700.00 bucks for a pair of pickups. I trust Seymour Duncan. Seems like they walk the talk but I can still afford a pickup from them. So by their very boastfulness they are absolutely implying that Duncan is selling very inferior products.
Mr. Scopp (I hope the spelling is correct) from management, does this not make you a little, what's the word? Angry? Or do you just laugh these guys off? I mean, I know this is about pup covers but it comes down to choices and this leads to the kind of BS I read from these guys.
Not trying to hijack thread, just got me all worked up when I saw their propaganda.
I better stop. How can these people stay in business when they cost so much but famous people use Duncan products anyway, even rich ones?

Throbak doesnt cater to nor is concerned with bargain shoppers.

Sorry but i think you should have stopped while you were ahead.

Throbaks covers cost so much cause he had paid for special tooling... to recoup this cost is very difficult for a company that sells a few hundred pickups a year. If your selling 10,000 or more pickups a year its easier to absorb this cost. Yes it is just a cover but it also has some very specific requirements in it. The people who pay this recognize that. The guys who just wants a cover will buy one from guitar fetish. But for people who are after the minutia ( and dont forget it is these minutia that even you yourself and this whole forum argues over day after day) he offers a product.

Why would competition bother SD? Competition is good it keeps the market from getting stale. SD has complete confidence in their products they have no reason to be angry. I seriously doubt it makes them worry much... But it should make them worry a little but thats a good thing it keeps companies from being complacent.

There will always be people who want something "more" even if its just to be different. For many they feel that SD is too common they want to be set apart. This is the market that the boutique winders go after. You cannot deny that any of the builders mentioned here dont make great pickups. Its up to each individual to decide what is right for them.

BTW i think most people here have missed the mark on what B2D is looking for hes after brushed nickle... not aged nickle

Its the difference between this.... and this its subtle but there...

Yep, that's it!! I want BRUSHED or a Satin nickel look, NOT aged.

Not that there's anything wrong with Aged, but I find the look is less consistent and I'd rather put real wear on it myself, but I still like the de-blinged look.

I did mine for my Brobucker myself using a shiny New SD nickel cover and gently swiping it across some 3600 grit cloth in the same direction as the original until it matched. The result is pretty darn good!

Will get some up tomorrow for you.

Re: I'd like satin/brushed nickel 'bucker covers, can Duncan do this for me?

This is a Production Floor Custom Seth Lover Worn. It is not the same as an Antiquity. It is not 'worn' or 'aged', it has an even, frosted/brushed kind of look. Any scratches you see are just because I've installed this in multiple guitars and played it already.

beaubrummels, hello,
Does a "Production Floor Custom" cost more than a standard floor model? I have not seen this before.

Five minutes of elbow grease with a domestic sponge with scotchbrite on one side and a bit of pot-cleaning abrasive cream on Antiquities' covers.

Didn't care about perfection, I just wanted to take the "aging" goop off'em.

Job done! Not too shabby, isn'it? ;)

Re: I'd like satin/brushed nickel 'bucker covers, can Duncan do this for me?

So, gentlemen,
May I ask, did the "worn" floor model cost more than regular floor model? If I ordered another Seth but asked for a worn nickel instead of regular nickel would it cost me more?
BTW- I did scotch brite a couple new nickel covers for a minute and let it marinate in vinegar fumes, in a Tupperware with vinegar and a closed top for 1 hour and they came out o.k., but I did another set and forgot and 12 hours later they looked kinda brown. Oops.
