Identify a pickup

Hi,

I have just bought a twin pickup guitar and it has a Seymour Duncan in the neck. It does not have any sticker on it. Is there any easy way to identify this pickup. I would imagine it is a '59 or a Jazz but just wanted to find out.

Also I have an old JB It has a sticker which says JBP so I assume it is a JB. The previous owner has drilled through where the screws go in so there is no way of screwing the pickup. Can anyone suggest screws long enough but with nuts that would do the job. I have checked couple of hardware store but could not find any suitable.

Thanks

Re: Identify a pickup

a few good clear close up pictures of the pickup (maybe showing the color of the wire through the hole in the top) and the dc resistance reading would narrow down what pup it might be

as for as the drilled out holes, ive soldered nuts to the legs and it has worked fine in the past

Re: Identify a pickup

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. I will defo try and solder the nuts on the screw sounds like a really good idea.

Attached are pics of the pickup

Re: Identify a pickup

Thanks guys. I will need to get a multimeter so I can measure. Thanks for the reply and help

Re: Identify a pickup

Sorry guys for resurrecting this thread. I got myself a multi meter and I can measure all my other pickups no problem. When I tried this pickup I have no idea what to do. I stripped back the silver outer cover and inside are only six wires. There is no plastic covers for each individual wire so I am unsure what to do or how to measure it. And further if I was to use this pickup again (I got it in a guitar I bought recently) I am not sure how to wire it.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

They're all part of the same wire, and should be all bundled together (wires are generally made from numerous thin "hairs" braided together to make them flexible). Measure the resistance (Ohms) between that silver outer cover and that lead inside.

unless this is some very special pickup I've never seen before that really has six wires...

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty new to this stuff so I had no idea what all these wires were and what to do with them.

I dont expect this to be anything special just an old SD and most likely 59. It came as a neck pickup from '93 Hamer Diablo but I dont know if that is the original pickup.

So I have now measured it as you suggested and it comes up as 7.58 so I guess that is a '59.

Thanks guys for your help
