If I lit my guitar on fire...

Re: If I lit my guitar on fire...

BAck in the late 70's Frank Zappa played an ex-Hendrix Strat the Jimi had torched. Zappa took the burned-up body, and re-fitted it with new neck & electronics.

It had been smashed and burnt and given to Frank by one of Hendrix's roadies... he hung it on his office wall for years and in the mid 70's decided to have i think Performance guitars make a neck for it.... Franks son tried to sell that strat for $500,000 last year but no takers... Frank's original custom made neck and electronics for it were long gone... It had been routed in the 70's for an active preamp boost that Frank liked back then. These days it has a 1991 Fender Custom shop neck, pickups, and a new Fender bridge on it...

Re: If I lit my guitar on fire...

I sanded the finnish off my Kramer in 1989 after the floyd split the wood and fell off the body... I smashed the guitar after it broke on me... I glued it together and later that summer i tried to paint it with spray cans like EVH's first album strat B&W.... It was just a plywood Striker... The finnish stayed extremely soft and never hardened up... l got sick of the VH look and sprayed it all white.... then i set it on fire while the paint was fresh and it went up like crazy! You couldn't really see the flames, (burned clear flames!!!!) and i had to get the garden hose out to put it out.... Almost set some big trees on fire that the body was hanging from.... I was a dumb kid...

Anyways the flames were mostly burning paint thinner and it hardened the paint!!!! go figure.... Around the forarm cut it was a little black but nothing huge.... I then took model paints of different colours and flicked a small brush at the body.. red yellow black blue green ornage.... whatever i had handy from my model car building days... the end result was a killer looking strat for the end of the 80's!!!! people loved the look of that guitar! It played and sounded like poop.... about 10 years ago i threw the body in the trash when i was moving.... but many of my old buddies still say that was one cool looking guitar...

I have another cheap White strat that i'm fixing up to replace my old Kramer's looks.... but this time no fire.....

Its not a question of whether or not you should set it on fire. Given your critique of the instrument, its a question of whether or not you should put the fire out. ;)

But seriously, I would recomend wearing a mask if you plan on buring the paint.
