If you had your own signature guitar...

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. well, i guess Fender would do this best. Telecaster Deluxe with a tummy contour and 4 neck screw construction
2. i'd have a Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge and Air Norton neck (or something very similar. i love the Air Norton in the neck. so clean!)
3. i guess 10 gauge strings, although right now i have 9's on it and am surprised by how much i like them
4. Lake Placid Blue, baby! although Candy Apple, Agave Blue, and Sherwood Green could be cool on this design... along with a classy model with a Mary Kaye finish and gold hardware :D

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

There is no way in Hades that I'm going to ever get a sig guitar. A sig toilet maybe, but I'm absolutely sure that no sig guitars will ever be in my future.

1. Company would you choose
Fender

2. Pickups would you have
STK-S1 Classic Stack® for Strat in neck and a SD Jazz Bridge pup with a angle mounted three way switch, one volume and one tone knob. Pups mounted in a single ply creme pickguard. 250k Vol and Tone knobs with CTS Pots. Tone knob will have 20 nf cap and volume pot will have the SD Treble Bleed mod.

3. Strings and guage would you have
Fender Nickle Bullets 11-52.

4. Finish options
Stained Ash strat body in an intense reddish orange. AAA Birdseye Maple neck with nothing but a Tru-oil finish (the body will have the same protective coat as the neck and is buffed to a high polish). Standard Fender Headstock and logo with my John Hancock scribbled below it. Neck profile will closely match the Charvel San Dimas in all possible respects, except it will have a fender roller nut and locking tuners. Pickguard will be single ply parchment colored and the body will be routed completely very shallow (about 1/16" deep) just 1/4" inside the outer edges where the pickguard meets the body so the whole pickguard more or less will be unsupported by the body. Six screw strat trem with a short bar and heavy springs. Black hardware and black pickups.

I'd also like a version in a deep aqua green with a white single ply pickguard that comes with STK-S1 Classic Stack® for Strat in the neck and a Stag Mag bridge and a push push knob on the tone to split the bridge pickup.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

off:

Now THAT's an archaic thread :) 2004... Good year in my book. Man, it was the time when our 1st album came out.

My best wishes & greetings fly to my old buddies... Biu, The Prophet, Alex in Chains, GoMano, WITH FULL DISTORTION (ahahahah), Hoss and so many of you sthill here, or gone from here... wherever you are, whatever you do... I can remember how many times you guys put me back on the track.

on:

1. Company would you choose

Fender, but only for the sole reason of re-surrecting the Squier '51 and having an upgraded version made by the big name company: flat alder body with zebrawood top, optional maple and rosewood fingerboards with maple necks, slightly different geometry. I would change the bridge but keep the Squier tuners, they seem to last longer than many fancy/classy ones I've had during the yeers...

2. Pickups would you have

If ain't broke, never fix it #1: SH8 bridge, SH1 or lil'59 neck. If SD would make a new pickup for me, it would be an easy thing: SH8 with a certain, subtle modification ;)

3. Strings and guage would you have

If ain't broke, never fix it #2: D'Addario 9-52 or 10-52

4. Finish options:

Some of these, maybe all of them:

Mortal Combat finish

Once a metalhead, always a metalhead ;)

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

Wow this Thread is so Old... my taste have changed so much now.. I no longer want a Floyd... but either a vintage or a non locking trem.. and a simple 1 vol 1 tone control.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. Gibson SG with a Bound 24 fret Ebony Fretboard, Slim Taper Maple Neck, Mahogany Body, 1968 SG Heel, Tone Pro TOM Bridge in #1, Badass wraparound on #2, Dot inlays, and Grovers on Both
2. #1 with SD Pearly Gates Neck and SD Angus Young Pearly Gates Bridge
#2 with SD Phat Cat with A2/C8 or A5 magnets Neck and SD or Gibson Tony Iommi Signature Bridge
3. Ernie Ball .009-.042 or .009-.046 for #1 in standard tuning and .010-.046 or .011-.048 for #2 in Eb tuning
4. #1 Walnut
#2 Ebony

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. Company would you choose

ESP all the way. ESP makes my favorite kinds of guitars. ESP makes my favorite band's guitars.

2. Pickups would you have

I joined this forum for a reason. Seymour Duncans. I'd go for a Blackout active set. They're better than EMG's and they suit my play style.

For electronics I would have 2 volumes and 1 tone, and one 3 way toggle.

3. Strings and guage would you have

.010 gauge DR Tite-fit strings. Period.

4. Finish options

A custom EXP (Explorer) Model in a spalted maple finish. Mahogany body. Floyd Rose tremolo (No locking nut). Graphite nut. Arrow inlays. 24 frets.

I would use Dunlop Dual-design strap locks and Sperzel Locking Tuners. All black hardware.

By the way, I play metal, in case you didn't notice.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. Paul Reed Ssmith
2. PRS Tremolo
3. SD Blackouts Metal bridge - Livewire Classic II neck. No exceptions. Don't like it? Then grow a set Nancy...
3.5 - .9-.49 strings, probably GHS Boomers or Dean Markley Blue Steel
4. Various color quit 10-tops with black burst finish, black hardware.
5. 10-16" compound radius EBONY fretboard, Allender Bat inlays with bat on headstock, no PRS signature.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. Fender, it's gonna be a Jazzmaster so it might as well be original. As long as they'd do it in mahogany.
2. Filtertron bridge pickup, Duncan Jazz/59 neck pickup with Tele poles instead of the bar magnet. AT LEAST. That's what I have waiting to go into it when I get the $600 I need to finish it. Also, the electronics would basically be a Gretsch port. (master/pickup volumes, tone switch)
3. Martin Lights. I don't know why more people don't use acoustic strings on electric guitars; I love 'em.
4. Trans red finish, because all mahogany guitars deserve a trans red finish. And a maple pickguard--not that it'll necessarily affect the tone in any noticeable way, but why not? Actually, the more I describe this the less likely it seems that Fender would ever even think of making it a production model.

PART TWO!
tumblr_l843dj6tmQ1qdwf8io1_1280.jpg

Melody Maker pickups (or Mustangs, I'm not that picky), mahogany body, volume and blend on the lower plate, on/off and series/parallel on the middle plate, and 500/50k tones on the upper plate. Ideally it would have white/black/white control plates, but the gold is growing on me. Also! I kind of made that picture as a joke but now I REALLY want to make it.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

1. ESP would be the company I chose, the body style would be Eclipse.

2. It would be a 3 humbucker style and have a switch to do all individually or combining 1&3, 1&2 and 2&3. The pickups would be 59 in the neck, AP2 in the middle and JB in the Bridge.

3. Elixir 10s.

4. The finish would be Amber Sunburst/Tobacco sunburst with abolone inlays.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

I used to think it would be some type of Telecaster. But after owning my EBMM Steve Morse guitar, I realized that I needed something different. Like Steve Morse and his FrankenTele morphed into his signature EBMM model, it evolved into something very much "unlike" a Tele. I have kind of morphed beyond a Telecaster. I love the tone of a good Strat neck pickup but a little fatter. I need a middle single coil for quackness. I need to be able to use the neck/bridge pickups together and not the middle alone.

Finally, the bridge pickup - to me, it's most important. The Telecaster bridge pickup is great, but I love the singing solo tone of a full-size humbucker. One of the best guitars I could base a signature model was Robert S' Strat. It had a JB in the bridge and I can't remember what else but it was very very cool. I would probably get a Strat type body without contours, like a Tele or my old Morse. BTW, I loved my Morse, but not the pickups or the switching and I didn't need 4 pickups. I would have a maple or ebony fretboard and an HSS pickup config.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

Fender (or who ever)
Telecaster neck - maple
Strat body - alder
Squier 51 pickguard and control panel
Fixed String through bridge
Pearly gates bridge, 59 neck with a Fralin single coil in the middle. Nickel covered humbuckers.
In between switch setting split the humbuckers.

The colors
Honey blond with black pickguard
Daphne blue with white pickguard
3 Tone sunbirst with white.

Probably would want a Fender Trem option as well as an origional Ibanez Edge option
The case would have to be lined with fake leopard skin of course.

Re: If you had your own signature guitar...

IBANEZ
Custom RG Carved top
Basswood/Plain Maple top
Maple/Ebony neck (no inlays)
XL Jumbo Frets

Black hardware and body-binding
