Tired of screwing around with the stupid PCB in my 73 50 watt 1987 Marshall..I Mean I Love my amp and it sounds great, but it just needs a PTP board....Pictures upon completion....Naturally...:laugh2:
kmcguitars said:John, Have you checked out Metroamps? For 80 bucks you get the board and all the components. It's all quality stuff IMO. Save yourself a lot of drilling.:13:
The ThunderTweak stuff looks pretty GoodSTRATDELUXER97 said:I already have a ThunderTweak Plexi Board....I'm populating it...Thanks though..
kmcguitars said:The ThunderTweak stuff looks pretty GoodAre you useing Orange drops,Mallory 150's or Sozo's ? My OT and choke should be ariving on monday for my homebrew 2204. With any luck? I'll have sound clips on Tues.
WhoFan said:Always up to something eh John.... Ha ha ha.... Never heard of someone changing a PC Board for the hell of it.... cool idea... i guess basicly it could be considered a custom amp for sure instead of a Marshall...
STRATDELUXER97 said:Mallory 150s work for me....Haven't tryed the Sozos?
Stratman said:Sozos have a better tone -
As with all capacitors (And Speakers) there is a break - in period for these devices.
STRATDELUXER97 said:I had to lift the entire board and get underneath the damn thing just to solder in 2 new 10 MFD bias caps....:smack:
lastwinj said:why would you do that. clip the caps right at the body of the component, and use the leads as "standoffs" or if enough room, leave component in solder new component, and clip out old. simple and very effective.

shredaholic said:If the amp has original Mustard caps keep those, your amp just won't sound the same without them. For current production, Sozos are the closest you can get to that Mustard equipped (1962-1975 Marshall) sound.

STRATDELUXER97 said:That looks tacky and I'm not into doing things that way....I Like the amp to retain it's overall nice look on the board....I've done that during tweaking phases of other components, but once I settle on the change I solder it like Marshall did from day 1....Call me crazy, but thats how I do it...That's why I'll now convert it over to PTP.....Looks vintage correct and I'll save the original pcb..I'm very meticulous with this kind of stuff and I don't short cut or go easy street on stuff...Not to say it's wrong, but I prefer to lift the board and solder my components that way...If you heat the standoff ends too much, you "risk" screwing up the nice connection you had at the solder joints under the board...You have to heat those board connections up a bit to do that, but still?
lastwinj said:very true. didnt know what you were going for. and i agree. for quick and dirty, i do it as stated, for longer or more visible circuits, stock.
