I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

This has nothing to do with the chapter 11 stuff. Or is it for bashing them. As I still love a lot of their guitars. But this was my 2nd 2018 sg standard that had to go back.
The first was because the neck and bridge were both set wrong. I got this one everything was fine setup was good sounded and played good. Then after a few weeks the clear coat started peeling and flaking off on the neck and headstock. On the low e side it started at the nut and went 3/4 the way to the first fret. On the high e dids it went from the nut to 1/2 way to the first fret. The headstock started in the middle at the stop and went almost to the Gibson logo.
I contacted sweetwater and they said they were having a lot of problems with the clear delaminating on gibsons.
So they just let me pick something else along with a few other goodies. So look for a NGD post in a few days.

Yeah, ya gotta pick them from years when the clear coat was good. Every Gibson owner knows that.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

Mine wasn't th He more expensive kind
And it had a flakey switch and Some burrs on the fret ends
The guy I bought it from was ambivalent as well
"They're like that sometimes"

I’m rather forgiving of Gibson’s shortcomings, but this is right out.

It almost looked like whiteout at first. Oh well, what do you want for a couple of grand?

Yeah, I think players' expectations are way too high.

Expecting to spend less than $5,000+ for a guitar with half-decent playability and proper finish adherence? No way!

You get what you pay for, my friend

:lmao:

Dude, I feel for you, seem to be snakebit on damn near every axe you buy. How many guitars have you had to flip b/c of problems the last year?

Yeah, what the heck are you doing to these poor guitars?

:)

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

Man no offense, but that finish was just going to do that with time anyway. It’s not something that hurts the playability of look of the guitar past looking at it from close up.

Again Astro - NOT the point. for $250 or $350 - fine.

For $2500 or $3500 - that's BS pure and simple.

I wouldn't even accept it on a $200-$300 dollar guitar, unless it was a formerly $1000 guitar that I found for the lower price at a pawn shop.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

If I was from Philly, I'd be whipping beer bottles at somebody over that.
Shame on Gibson.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

It amazes me that Gibson still has its doors ooen yet Hamwr closed down.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

I've had nothing but cheapos my whole life and I've never had that happen.

Yikes.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

What I really feel sorry for in a lot of this are the workers at Gibson......especially those in the finishing dept. They must know their schedule is impossible, but have to make do with too little prep and less application/curing time than what is needed. In fact anyone involved in the final fit comes into this.....including binding scrapers.
Thats where it has all gone south for Gibson in the last few years.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

Gibson is the Elvis Presley of guitar manufacturers.

Re: I'm officially done buying gibsons new anyway.

The surface is probably at the incorrect grit, fine, and so the clear didn't adhere.
