I'm selling everything i have

Re: I'm selling everything i have

its all in the hands.

years ago i went to a convention at the hammerstein ballroom in nyc & heard riiiipppiin tone coming from way down a hall... figured it had to be some guy wailing on a fine tube amp with a really nice ride...

get down there...

and it's leslie west, playing a $200 guitar and a 6 watt solid state amp.

i wasn't that impressed. in fact, there was a lot of junk in his playing. i'll give him credit though, at least he didn't play slop and his tone was decent.

Re: I'm selling everything i have

coming from someone who thinks a half computer PCB marshall is the epitome of tone, i'll take that as a compliment to this guy

touche, but it's all about how you play though isn't it? coming from someone who thinks that guy can really play, i'll that that as a compliment to my own playing then - thanks

Wow, he's pretty much got the tone down. I owned an SRV strat for a while (awesome neck!) and it certainly did help get his sound a bit better than the other strats I had at the time. But yeah, it's in the hands. If you want to get SRV down to that level of authenticity, you'd better be prepared for wrastlin'.

I wonder if he plays his own stuff? -it's cool to see a dude cop a great player to such a degree, but I alway end up wondering if they have anything personal to say. Still, many worse players to cop from. As john Mayer said, SRV never ever dropped the one, and that's the mark of a truly great player.

Man I liked that tone a lot. Besides the fingers of course, I think a lot of it is in the amp if not all of it. Just adjusting the gain and volume level the slightest for strats can either ruin or make your tone sound like god. Sometimes it sounds too thin, sometimes it is too muddy you get my picture. I am still trying to find that right level with my strat. The easy way out would be to leave the volume at whatever then hit it with the tube screamer. The best way to get that fat SRV tone would be to get the level right AND have the tube screamer on, which is probably what he did

A vibroverb definately helps to get a sound like that, its the 15" speaker. I got one and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

BTW, thats Tommy K. Jr. He's good and he does have an album out right now so you can look him up.

I had the same thing with Michael Schenker, when I went to a show of some UFO reunion or another. He sounded soooooo much better than Paul Raymond, who had a P-90ied axe and about the same amp as Schenker.

Schenker's sound just blew me away, Raymond nearly took the left part of my head off (still hate P-90s).

Only problem with the "it's in the hands" theory was that when the roadie played Schenkers guitar he got the same sound. I guess he payed very close attention to Michael's playing :)
