you better than briand in the end.. and not just with words, either :p

Did you mean I better THANK Brian? He pointed out to me that adding a K at the end of 'than' changes the whole intent of your post....
Believe me Brian will be properly thanked....and you (nor anyone else for that matter) won't get the details. ;)

Re: In the design stage.

Ok, the horn guitar is on hold for another day.

Concentrating on the first one that Steph likes the shape of. With a smooth body with very prominent front horns I think we can come up with a very cool looking guitar.

So here it is at what ever stage you would like to call it. I guess that makes it an interactive thing.

This pick shows the thingy’s that will be cut out of the horns all the way threw the body.

But, then again this is just the beginning.

Re: In the design stage.

That is lookin pretty sweet Brian, I like it. The cutouts dont make it too fragile do they?

Well, that would depend on you and if you use it as a hammer on something or someone. There will be a ½” or a little more of wood all the way around the cut out and it is 1 ¾” thick. It will be plenty strong enough for what I do with my guitars and what I have seen my friends that play do with there’s.

Re: In the design stage.

he refuses to install my modded floyd for me, so I guess that idea is shot to hell and back

Shouldn't it be a southpaw though?

I think we have found that she plays easier as a right handed player. But who knows with her.

Son, some things we just have to do alone in a room far, far away.

Well then I won't use it to beat you into submission....how's that? :biglaugh:

Re: In the design stage.

Here are some stains that I played with today on some swamp ash wood.

They are all MINWAX water-based wood stains. I personally don’t like there oil-based stain just doesn’t seem to penetrate as good as the water-based. Just my opinion.
1. Cherry Blossom – the red one
2. Northern Ivy – the green one
3. Island Water – the blue one
4. Blue Hawaii – the grayish blue one
5. Onyx – the black one
6. They all have S&S on top of the stain.

In other wards, wood, stain and then S&S. I did try some MINWAX wood conditioner on the long piece of wood but I can’t see any difference with the naked eye. It is supposed to make it evenly stain but I did not have a problem getting it even. I applied the stain with a cut up t-shirt by hand. I only left the stain on for one minute then wiped it of with a clean piece of cloth. The light colored stains needed two coats and the dark ones need one, in my opinion.

I tried it with two coats of onyx and then sand back so it is just in the grain. I like that way it makes the grain really pop out. I also did it with out the bass of onyx and it looked allright but no real pop to it.

I did not fill the grain on these test pieces. I did sand the wood to 220 grit then stained and then I hit it with a light two pass with 220 grit then applied the S&S.

With black bass coat. Northern Ivy and Blue Hawaii.

if the single is noiseless tahts good, but ive never REALLY liked hums and singles mixed

Re: In the design stage.

Just a thought...But is this going to a normal strat sized body or is it going to be smaller and more compact like an Ibanez RG body?

Normal strat sized body....how come?

Steph is correct.

The body will be a couple of you know what hairs bigger (not enough to notice) and the top horn is 2 ½” longer then a strat and the bottom horn is 1” longer then a strat.

So it is a “Stratitsnot”!

Was thinking of the comfort factor moreso than anything. I've talked to few girl guitar players that like the comfort of the scaled down Ibanezish style bodies. Stating that their chest appendages have a tendancy to get in the way w/ a full size body.

I could cut two big notches out of the top. Maybe even put some kind of shelf like thing for added support of the appendages at question.

Re: In the design stage.

Now that's why I just love you guys....always thinkin about the important stuff ;).
Seriously I did take that into consideration already. Having played my ex-husband's Ibanez Iceman and Brian's strat I am feeling copacetic with the design Brian has come up with in regard to my particular needs in that area....thanks :)
