Incoming NGD x2

Pretty remarkable how much guitar one can get for not much $ nowadays. I bet many of us think: 'if I these things were around when I started..' 😄.
That was ten years ago, but I'm less inclined to believe that today.

Over the past few years 2022-2025 I purchased a handful of guitars (7-8?) ended up with two, had to return the rest. Of the two I kept, only one is 100% (and its an ugly color), probably should have returned the other

Even in the 1K price bracket you get construction problems like misaligned trem posts and shoddy fret work, that ten years ago would have been better on a $300 guitar. On 1K guitars, Jackson is lopping off fret ends at a steep angle so its difficult to even work them without a refret. Then you have substandard materials, most guitars under 1K don't get ebony/rosewood boards, are using throwaway lightweight poplar, and they all have "economy" inlays, which means either no inlays or offset tiny dots. No abalone. And these have FRS or edge zero trems. No OFR or edge/lo pro. And a bunch of 1K+ guitars are MII and MIC. Yuck.

I am really disappointed in what you get for the money over the past five years. There is very little that distinguishes a 1K guitar from a $300 guitar. It is usually just aesthetics (they reserve trademark appointments and finishes for mid or higher). You used to get MIJ or MIK which came with great fretwork, but now you get MII or MIC with rushed fretwork. My conclusion, either spend 2K+ or buy/return $300 guitars until you get a good one. Or buy used.

So just got around to pushing in the whammy bar on the Fesley

And the set screw is missing

The bar is kinda floppy
Amazon said they would give me an extension if I want to return it.
But it's kinda nice

I went to the Fesley website and contacted service
They are supposed to have a one year warranty

Let's see how that goes

The springs had popped out during shipping

I just want the size of the wilkerson set screw so I can source one

Do any of ya'll have a clue as to what size set screw that is in a wilkerson 111 series bridge?

Ok that's it

I looked at the height adjustment screws
And measured those by the replacement dimensions for m3 ones AI suggested
The height adjustment are the right size and pitch but the length of 8 mm is way too long

3mm long it is

M3-0.5 x 3mm for the set screw
M3-0.5 x 8mm for saddle height adjustment

For Wilkerson 111 series bridge

Edit:
Thats Wilkinson M series
I can't read

Ok sending the Fesley back
The one thing those YT reviews leave out is the short trem block

Springs dragging the wood in back if you move the bar

I had to buy the grub screw to make the bar work

They arrived today
Amazon sells them in packs of 100
So if anyone needs one......

I could buy a new block and install it on the tremolo but I am already out for the screws

Fesley just responded today (Friday)
I sent them an email Sunday
Their reply was that it was a holiday at the factory and wouldn't be able to answer the question of what size screw it was until mid March

Its going back
Dangit it was a nice guitar
Butt.....

Alright tomorrow is the day I try to install the LSR nut on my IVY
Probably gonna put in the Guyker bridge with the locking saddles as well

Was looking at pickguards because of the other thread about that

I mocked up a black and a tortoise

Which do you guys vote for?

I like the black guard. I also love LSR nuts- I have them on 3 guitars. It takes a few tries to see how many shims are needed, but once it is set, then you never have to worry about it again. I wish they still made LSR tuners.

What are LSR tuners? Never heard of those

On my candy apple 🍎 strat
I think a back guard would also be the ticket

They both may get black ones
Oh and it gets an LSR nut as well

The YT guys say I can do away with the string trees as well....
Is that so?

Shame about the Fesley; a quartersawn neck, name-brand Wilkinson bridge and name-brand Grover tuners for under $200 seems like a deal.

Larry
Yeah it was extremely nice
Rolled fretboard edges on a roasted neck
It was cleary my favorite until the spring thing

The seller originally told me to order another when I got my refund. They were sure that wasn't their standard
But by the time the refund arrived, they had two used ones left. One of which was the one I sent back. They couldn't tell me which one was my return . Then told me to purchase a different manufacturers guitar.

Weird

They seem to be blowing out the stock
Last year they were $300+
Christmas they were $169
