Inexpensive Clean Amp for 2x12 cab

I just sold my Mesa Nomad 45 combo and got the deal of the century on a JCM 900 50 watt head and 4x12 cab. I love the Marshall dirty tone. I like it a lot. I am having a hard time adjusting to a one channel amp, especially coming from the 6 channel Mesa. I can turn the volume down on the guitar to get cleaner but not my favorite option.

I have a spare Marshall 1936 2x12 cab that I am not using. I would love to get an inexpensive head or combo to use with it as my clean channel. I'd obviously love to have a Fender for this but I don't want to spend a ton of money. I'd also perfer tubes but I may not be picky if there is something that I can use and like.

I'm not a professional and i don't have a ton of shows lined up, I just like to have cool gear and jam every once in a while. I also hate to see the 2x12 cab not being used. Let me know what you guys think.

Rock on!

I'll probably get flamed for this... but I just bought a Hartke GT60 head and one of the things I am really enjoying is the clean sound. I've never heard this with any of my other amps. It's mostly SS but does have a tube in the preamp. It has a street price of $199, but I got mine in a close out for $164.

For what it's worth...

How loud do you need your clean to be? Also, what flavor? Juicy and springy, modern and chorused out, flat?

Re: Inexpensive Clean Amp for 2x12 cab

I would ideally want a Fender-style clean - bluesy soul. I really like the Champs that I have played but I doubt they would push a 2x12. It just seems a waste to have the cab and not use it. Like I said before, my prospects of having some major shows anytime soon are slim but it would be fun to have a cleaner option.

Rock on.

check out that fender bassman that empty pockets is sellin' in the trading post.

I'd look for a 70's silverface Fender Bandmaster Reverb head or Fender Dual Showman Reverb head...if it's Fender clean you want. Lew

Sell the cab and use the money to add to the clean fund?

Probably blasphemy, but how about a Crate Powerblock? I've not played one, but a lot of folks have a lot of nice things to say about them. Inexpensive seems to fit the bill.
