Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

I'll tell you in six to eight weeks.

Though I did play a Franky replica back when they came out, I thought the sound was great. All the awesomeness of the '78 but more of it.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Awesome! Any chance you'll be expanding into customizing production floor models? Would love to take the existing designs and mix/match to hearts content with a little upcharge, of course.

IE: Pearly gates/Slash hybrid with A4 mags unpotted with gold covers?

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

I have to wonder what goes through MJ's mind (or whoever else does the winding on these) when we ask for these hybrids? I'm sure she's more aware of the engineering aspects of the whole process regarding predictability of the end-result than we are. Not to mention the variables of tone, DC resistance, resonant peak, etc. How many of these make sense to her, and how many don't? I mean, I can sit here and frankenmutt a JB to a 59 and call it done, but the technical side of it is completely ignored. I don't even know if they use the same wire.

Coming into it from a winder's standpoint, you're looking at wire gauge, windings, metering, etc.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

I will drop ship to Italy with the little or no added fee. No problem Kojack my friend owns a store.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

What's up w/ the dual blade Charlie Christian in a soapbar P90 housing? Any specs on that? It just looks cool!

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Sure, just after I swear off building and buying new gear….

NO MORE GAS!

As a Custom Shop thing, yes but not shop floor custom. Next goal is adding more pickups and ability to get rewinds and repairs easily. Then I'd like to really have one big build your own pickup, where you can choose every last option you could ever imagine.

Derek has a new way of doing the CC that is slightly less an exact replica but reduces the price a whole lot and we really would like to add that. I'd also like to get the single coil Invader up soon.

Sounds good, especially the 'every option' bit; there's a SSL set idea I'd like to put together.

Wow! Awesome! What's CC? Would the coil matching/hybrids with custom mags be slightly less than custom shop specific designs but more than production designs or would each PUP have to be wound in the custom shop?

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

yes the same goes for the pearly gates for strat. it seems the only option available for most pickups here is an alnico II. will there be other options added later or will these mistakes be fixed?

I think he means the Charlie Christian.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Yea. An "ultimate hybrid" might be cool. Pick the coils you want from the pickups you want.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Oh! Hadn't heard of that one before. Damn, it is indeed the pricy one. Glad they could make it more accessible.

Yes, Charlie Christian - I'll post more details shortly. I'm going to extend the discount out one more day in case anyone wants to take advantage of it.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Awesome! Too bad I'm freaking broke. 4th of July is a big deal around this house. My wallet gets hammered!

Def interested in the CC in a P90 housing. Also really interested in the humbuckers in a P90 housing w/ PATB pole pieces. More so a price on them since I know MJ will wind them anyway I want them.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

The IM1 has arrived and is installed. Love it!

It is sitting in a US Charvel with a '59 in the neck and a single 500K volume. It has a lot of the magic of the '78 but beefier low end, similar chewy mids, and plenty of bite. Kind of like if a '78 kicked the crap out of a JB and took its lunch money.

This is cool. I've been thinking of getting custom shop pickups with some Zepher options (ie Cryogenically treated, Zepher polepieces, etc), but have yet to ask MJ for pricing. This would be cool to see how much each option costed so I could weigh the benefits to cost prior to purchase.
