Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

Dimebag used solid state amps and, listening to Vulgar Display of Power at the weekend, his lead tone on that was incredible.

I agree with the guy that said the only sin would be to not play the guitar at all.

All I see in this thread is LOOK EVERYONE I HAVE AN R8 AND A FENDER MUSTANG AMP

Yep, that's it. And, it gets better from here... Being an old guy has its moments.

Bragging about a Mustang amp? Nope. A Bogner or a Bruno, now that'd be a nice bit of braggin' rights.

It's a sin to be stupid enough to spend about $5000 on that amp+cab and $300 on a guitar.

It is? Because if I had $5000 and that's it for guitar gear, I certainly wouldn't blow it on a guitar.

Neither would I. I'd spread it out *somewhat* more evenly. I'd get a Music Man Reflex ($2K) and have three grand left for an amp. FWIW, that's the most expensive guitar on my list by a long shot.

That was my thoughts as well. Since when did a solidstate amp warrant bragging rights? lol Everyone knows tube amps are where it's at..... :)

Besides, if you want the guitar modeling portion to work properly, you have to start with known parameters, ie, their guitar.
Depends on your definition of "properly". If you pay a visit to the Institute of Noise board, a lot of people have done Variax transplants with both Warmoth bodies/necks and other custom-made parts.
Scott - How can a manufacturer of high quality tube amps ask a question on solid state junk, I mean amps?
Same reason he can build quality tube amps: he listens with his ears instead of his eyes. :scratchch

Its only a sin to play jazz....anything rock has no rules.

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

It is a heinous sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp. Being geographically close to Stonehenge, I have some influence with the druids and can arrange to redeem your soul through paganistic ritual. There is of course a penance that must be paid. These druids, men of Celtic origin, will demand that you surrender to them one of your progeny, the b1tchy/sweet virgin Edana, who must arrive clothed only in standard tolex and configured for 230V.

Very funny Doctor Jones!

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

An R8 is nothing more then a RI. now if you were talkin' about a real 58. that is a whole different matter.

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

Is it a sin to resurrect ancient threads from the days of yore?

That Mustang III is looking mighty tasty these days.

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

If you have to ask you know it's a sin.

Are we talking scripture here? I think acoustic guitars are addressed somewhere in there, but electrics hadn't been invented yet. I think you're okay. :14:

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

Even my keyboard has a tube, so I guess I am ... biased! haha

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

Yes Sir, it sure is, even "just" a reissue..unless you are recording and you dont want the hassle of micing up real amps.

Re: Is it a sin to run a 58 Reissue Lester thru a solid state modeling amp?

I ran many a Les Paul including my R7 Junior and R8 Standard through my Valvetronix VT50 and VT20+. Dig many a gig too with them. Never was let down. Went deaf a few times though...

It always sounded good. Best tool on the market IMHO. Don't let gear snobbery ruin your pursuit for tone I say.

The only sin i am aware of is drinking a Guinness warm. That being said if it's your gear, your ears and your beers, do what the F you want.
