Re: Is it always love at first sight with a new guitar?
I still contend that it's like a woman. At first, you really, really like her, but you don't love her till you really know her.
Same with guitars. I wouldn't buy it unless I really really like it, or the idea of owning it. Then, I play it for a month. There's some that you'll keep because you like them, but the ones you play....you really love.
What do I love?
Gibson LP Goldtop with a revolving door of pickups. This guitar has a story I can only discuss in PM's.
Gibson LP Std. Prem Plus with Brobucker/PGn. Kicks ass.
Gibson ES-335 w/57 Classics. Rings like a bell.
Gibson SG Diablo Guitar of the Month. The best SG ever made...Love it.
96 America Std. Strat......like my old pair of Levis. Test bed for new pickups.
All my strats are playing great, and also test beds for pickups. It's amazing how A5 vintage singles of all makes differ in tone and feel. The next ones I want to try are the YJM strat set.
Martin D-28, Cordoba Classical, Johnson Resonator.....I play all 3 a lot.
They were all guitars I really wanted at first sight. But now I've sunk into those ones enough that I wouldn't sell them. If I hadn't pulled the trigger on some questionable ones, I would have never known.
