I know it's less expensive than the other tubescreamers, but is it still good? I'd be interested in using this mostly as a gain boost
It's pretty good on its own, but even better if someone mods it to 808 specs for you, or does one of the many cool mods available for it.
Also, never EVER set it to "hot" mode. Sounds terrible.
Try it, if you like it then it is good...
If you are buying a pedal to mod look for something else...those pedals are decent sounding pedals and can be made to sound even better BUT the PCB's are rather cheep and after mods they often come apart, traces start to lift etc...
If you already haveone and want to haveit modded thats fine just get somebody thats good at pedal mods to do it...if you are looking for a pedal as a mod platform you'd be better off with almost anthing, I'd suggest a Boss SD-1...
Well built, good switching system and cheep!
it's a TS-9 circuit in a cheaper plastic box.
i have a friend who says he'd rather buy the $50 cheap one and use it until it breaks than the $100 one until it breaks...so there ya go.
Oh ok I might get an SD-1 instead then. Does this sound good on it's own too or not so much?

Oh alright this makes sense. I think I'll just stick with the TS7 then. The only reason it's cheaper is just the fact that it comes in a cheaper casing?
sd-1's sound fine on their own and later on if you want to mod it they tend to hold up to mods better...

"Is the TS7 reliable and well built?" is a better question!! As other have pointed out, they're not built to last forever especially if youre playing regualrly and DEFINATELY if you're touring!
