Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

I've had the same thoughts everytime I get this out....But it's a great guitar. Like an evil SG

It's a Samick Cobra. All mahogany, set-neck, Duncan Designed pups, Grover tuners-all stock. Gives a great Sabbath tone.

i think the Gibson V and Explorer can be pulled off by almost anyone but the crazy jackson pointy Vs and other crazy shaped guitars like the dime razorback and such should have a cutoff age lol.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

I see plenty of old blues guys slinging Firebirds and Explorers, and it looks cool.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

Yeah, I totally forgot about Johnny Winter! He's always played Firebirds or Steinbergers.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

james hetfield still plays explorers, and he looks cool as hell

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

As long as there's someone that wants to stand out a little; no, I don't think so.

I was thinking of Priest the whole time I was reading this thread. I think it goes with the music style, more than the age.

Dave Mustaine is what, 45? He looks badass as hell still with his V's. Same with KK and Glenn.

OT: Lynch is 50!??! He didn't look more than 40 at the UGD!

Maybe there should be a cutoff age for spandex. :laugh2:

And trying to wear the same pair of leather pants they wore 20 years and/or 30lbs ago.

I really hope there isn't a cutoff age...... I have 5 Ibanez Destoyer II's, 1 Gibson Explorer and only one "normal" '56 Les Paul Junior... I have a hard enough time playing anything that doesn't have the "explorer" hump where I rest my arm.......

<---- of course, I may just be kidding myself while all the "youngun's" laugh at my pic.......

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

Personally, I'd like to see Bonnie Rait try a BC Rich. That would be a good look.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

Not at all... I just sold this old guy an Explorer, I think his name was theodie?

LOL!!!

Seriously though, I dont really care about the image thing at all.... If you like the appearance, feel, and tone of a guitar, then ROCK ON!! Kinda like the low-slung thing... It isnt the most efficient method of holding the guitar... I have mine setup where my wrist and foream are parallel (for the most part), and I have noticed improved accuracy and speed as a by product.... Image is nothing, obey your thirst! HAHAHAHAHA!

On a different note, I had the pleasure of seeing David Allan Coe play back in 2001... It was an awesome show, but he has aged... He is an old looking 65 year old man.... Anyway, when he was introduced, he walked out with these suspender looking things over his shoulder and his guitar tech ran out carrying a mean looking axe with the rebel flag painted on it... Well, that is when the prupose of the suspenders beame evident... It was a load-distributing strap with Straplocks... Here is a link to a pic with that axe.....

Well, if he can pull it off, then go for Broke!!!

I think it depends on the individual. I tend to go for more traditional designs over any of the edgy shapes. With that said, I still think Gibson Firebirds and Andreas Sharks are bad-ass looking guitars and wouldn't mind adding one of either to my collection in the future.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

It all depends on what you you play and how you look. A B.C.Rich looks perfectly fitting when i'm playing it but i look kind of stupid when i play my strat so i guess it just depends on personality.

Re: Is there a cutoff age for odd shaped guitars?

Bottom line, your style/attitude needs to match your guitar or your going to look out of place with it.
