Well the bandit its know for great budget and its sounding its pretty neutral for my taste, it really has the peavey signature sound, meaning its a great starter-semi pro amp, and with 50 watts is enough, you´ll see it for yourself when you start giging and doing venues in pubs or similars... trust me you cant go wrong if you go with the peavey bandit, but like ksmith said: if you like the sound go for it. then againg there are many other amps you should look before you make your mind.
cya.

Re: is this a good amp?

I played one this afternoon, right next to a Peavey XXX. The XXX was noticeable better, but the Bandit was still pretty damn good.

Re: is this a good amp?

Oh man the XXX amp is the real deal without "bill mcneal" jejeje just joking around, but for sure the XXX its all tube amp and the bandit si a transtube which means solid state, but either way you cant go wrong.

Re: is this a good amp?

ThePeavey Bandit II 112 is an 80W amp.

Bang for buck ratio, there's no better amp in its price range.

Tube snobs don't like it for obvious reasons. Is it the XXX? Or a Fender Tweed? Of course not. But it does some pretty remarkable things for what it is.

LesStrat sounds AWESOME through it...OTOH, my Parker sounds kind of sterile through it. Play one with YOUR guitar, and see if you like what you get.

BTW, minor eq adjustments make significant tonal changes. I also like the vintage/modern switch: cool sounds there as well. I like the reverb in this amp. AND, when you learn to adjust the "T Dynamics" ratio knob, you'll get MORE cool sounds out of it.

It can be had for under $400.

Do a search for "Bandit" in the Guitar Shop. We had a pretty good discussion on this one recently.

Feel free to PM me. I don't use the Bandit very often, but I have NO intention of selling it, either.

Re: is this a good amp?

BTW, don't get the original Bandit. It did not have a Sheffield speaker.

Go for the Bandit 112, or the Bandit II. Only the latter has the vintage/modern switch.

I have the 112

Re: is this a good amp?

Hmm, looks like I shouldn't have brought up the XXX. Just to reiterate, the Bandit is a very good amp in its own right. It's fairly versatile, sounds good, and of course is built like a tank.

Re: is this a good amp?

yep, those peavey amps surely can manage a lot of gigs and venues, not to mention rehearsels, i wish i could have one right now, my crate its a the doctor my teacher busted two weeks ago and his combo doesnt stand up for my taste, but i have to deal with it, maybe on the future i´d buy a peavey 2x12 combo, the older the best.
i have a XXL head though but its heavy.

Re: is this a good amp?

BTW, my brother in law is selling his Peavey XXX 2x12 combo. But it might be out of your price range (like new, only used at home, etc.). Plus, it would probably cost quite a bit to ship it to you from Cali.

Re: is this a good amp?

I played Peavey's smallest Bandit model and wasn't too happy with it. In fairness, though, I didn't have time to play with the EQ much, so it may have been capable of much better. If you like the sound of it, then that's obviously not a problem for you (and probably not for me, if I got to tweak it to my taste). They're well built amps. I'd definitely try one again if I was in the market for such an amp.

Re: is this a good amp?

For the price of the 112 you could get a 212 Spider II by Line6. 150W and sounds damn good. pretty versitle with some nice bells and whistles.

Re: is this a good amp?

Dude, the street price of the Bandit II is $380. The street price of the Spider 212 is $500. He could get a Spider 112 for $300, though.

Easy killer I was just going by the price on the page that someone posted. I saw $500 and thought that's what they went for. What do I know.

Re: is this a good amp?

No offence taken or intended. Just a minor correction.

A used Classic 30 is not a bad idea, either.
