I am finding out in which way I can reduce the output of my ENGL 50 thunder combo (50watts). After thinking many options (mods, attenuators...) I decided that the speaker is the easiest part to be modified. My combo cames stock with a Celestion Silver Series V12-80 which has a 97dbs sensitivity.
Since I like the way stock speaker sounds I prefer to keep it in place. To solve the problem I decided to build a cabinet with two 8'' speakers for home use.
After checking some models I thought that a Jensen P8R could be a good option. Thoose are 25Wats rated with a 92.5 dbs sensitivity. This lower sensitivity means that this speakers are going to be much quiet than the stock speaker for the same power given. I will be able to use higher master volume setting so the output tubes will be able to get a bit more saturated.
What do you think? Did I have a good idea or is this completely silly? Finally, Is the P8R a good speaker?
Opinion please!!!
