Is this a real Seymour Duncan?

Yes, that is a legitimate Duncan.

SD was using those alternative baseplates with black decals during the pandemic when there were supply shortages. Notice the date on the label aligns with this

Also, Franklin Guitar Works is a legitimate seller. They often sell B-stock, old stock, and OEM overstock pickups for SD and various guitar manufacturers.

Thanks, Clint. I guess ill have to give them a shot. Unless, of course, you are planning a sell off soon…then i should save up for that
;)

Hi everybody,

Is this a real seymour duncan?
Supposed to be a duckbucker but something feel off. I had to put transparent tape for the cover and the pickup to stay together.

Thanks

^These covers are usually glued on, but it looks like a neck Duckbucker to me. Maybe someone dropped it? Does it work?

While we see a lot of fakes here, it is unusual to see something like a Duckbucker faked. Lots of JB, Jazz, and 59 humbuckers, but a Duckbucker is a little harder as everything would have to be fabricated, and there just isn't enough demand for a pickup like that (and no celebrity endorsers) to drive a black market. Not saying it can't be done, I just don't think anyone would bother.

Not only that, but that's a lot of detail to fake on the little circuit board. I'd bet it's real.

Hi,

I received a Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set (SH-4/SH-2) today, but something doesn't feel quite right – my "spider-sense" started tingling. The pickups don't look like what i have seen on web-searches..

Would you be able to take a quick look and let me know if anything seems off? They were ordered from a webshop I've trusted and used for years.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like someone pulled cheap Asian pickups out of a guitar (because the lead wires are different lengths), installed the SH4/2, then put the Asian pickups in the Duncan box and sold them on.

Thank you so much, that was what I feared. I have now arranged the return, so let’s hope everything goes well. Again, thank you very much.

best of luck with the return! sucks that people try and pull shady things like this, but at least you found out quickly

Question, looking to buy the below.
Seller claims this is a 70s JB wound by Seymour in the early days. Did those come with 4-conductor leads?

Thanks

Braided 2-conductor was the default standard. I don't know when they started offering 4-conductor as a customization. It could have been done as a mod later, also. My Seymour-wound "The JB Model" has 4-conductor and looks just like that. The green wire on mine is more pale than current 4-conductor wire. The double creme on mine is lighter than the creme in your picture. Otherwise it looks about right. Someone else might catch something I'm not seeing.

Yes, you could get them with 4-conductor back then, though it was more common to see that option from the late-70s on.

The particular one you shared looks like '78-'80 production range. The earliest ones from '76-'77 had flat-head screws on the baseplate, not philips, but everything looks correct.

If it's not overly expensive, I'd give this one a shot for sure!

Hi, I puchased some used 59s (Vintage Blues Set). Are they looking real? These tape coming to the back plate, are they original (never seen duncans like that)?
