Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

So I ordered a custom body awhile back from a reputable place and just got it in the mail today. I ordered it with a 2 1/4 neck pocket. And this is what I get.... emailed them and they said that is their 2 1/4 pocket size as not all necks are exactly 2 1/4. Which I get that. Builder said they leave some material so you can do some light sanding to get a tight fit. IMO this is way more that some "light sanding" looks like 2 3/16 neck pocket to me.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

If its a bolt on neck, you don't need the precise fit that a glue in needs. Such that the light sanding bit to make it fit excuse is not valid.
Plus if you are talking about fit, you should be going the other way.....to accommodate the finish that usually goes onto a neck after its made to the size.

I'd be sending that back myself.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Although I'm inclined to think the pocket is a bit small (better than too big) -as this is common, but you clearly didn't burn an inch on your tape, and I don't see any way to tell if the Hook on your tape is calibrated or what your starting point is -so I'd say take another pic and use a real precision instrument in the pic and then you'll get some better feedback I think.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

You meant 2" 3/32nds, that's what the tape reads

Cuz 3/16 is 1/16 deeper than 1/8

PS since you're holding it at an angle, it's probably even shorter, perhaps 2 1/16 or less

Yes tape was the first thing I had in front of me. I'm going to grab my mic and get some better numbers.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

The hook on that tape would have to be SUPER loose to be off by 1/8. That’s definitely too small.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Here are some real measurements. Either way you slice it that's way more than "a little sanding"

Nice work! That's definitely a bit small.

Only bad thing is if you send it back are they going to sand on the one you return correctly? and if they do are they putting is back on a jig for a really accurate and square pocket or are they going to just touch it enough to open it up?

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Whoa, is that WIDTH? I was blanking and thinking depth

Tell em to gtfo, a finish would ADD thickness and snug fits crack sh!t, so they're full of it

It's not a sanding issue it's a QC fail / order unfulfilled issue when the dang neck doesn't fit after you went and ordered a size that would fit

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Ive never fitted a neck before but it looks like the bottem of the neck isnt square . But like I said I've never fitted a neck and it may supposed to be like that

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

That's a 2-3/16" neck pocket. They're mistaken, clear QC fail on the part of whomever routed the neck pocket

2-3/16" = 2.188" + room for finish = 2.1995 as you have here

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

They are making it right. Building a new body to my specs. Let's hope they actually build a new one and not try to re route this one. I made a small discreet mark inside the control cavity so I will know if they did or not. Not trying to bash on the manufacturer that's why I havnt said where I got it. We are human and everyone makes mistakes. They said they will make it right and that's what matter most. Sucks I have to wait longer to get this project started.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Even if they did just widen it with a template that would suffice wouldn't it?

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Agreed. It's not necessarily a "defective body"...just the wrong width pocket. If they send back the same body, but further routed for the wider pocket, I wouldn't worry about it unless there's a visible issue with the "fix", which there really shouldn't be.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Right. I just dont want them to go after it with a file or sander because I dont want the pocket to be out of square. I'm fine with them giving this body as long as its fine correctly.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

I don't think any pro builder with access to cnc/router (that will effortlessly do the job in 30 seconds at most) will want to sit there for several hours with a file and sandpaper (which also counts as a very haphazard method for final QC). Not even an amateur hobbyist with no 'time=$' constraints would consider the alternative.

Oh, and just so you know, the neck pocket tapers. Although I know what you mean, it is never square in the first place.

I’m familiar with those stamps and Im sure he will make it right with you. Looks awesome though so far!

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Anyway dont push the neck to sit in the pocket by force. I have broken twice my Aria's pocket trying to fit a larger neck heel.

Re: Is this legit or am I getting the run around.

Body was sent back to the builder. They should have gotten It today. So we will see what happens.
