I've never done any recording to speak of....what exactly would I need to get the basics down?

I asked for a GC gift certicate for Christmas & was thinking of picking up a mic to mess around...what else will get the job done for a beginner?

A mic, soundcard, and recording software. Look at Audacity. It's free and pretty darn simple to use. I just started using it and have gotten a handle on it pretty quickly. Still need to figure out the rest (effects and stuff). Make sure the mic cable can plug in to the tiny 1/8" jack on the soundcard. Mic cables come with 1/4" or XLR ends. Get the 1/4" then get an adaptor to take it to 1/4". Or, just get a cheap PC mic with a big mic ball in the end. They make 'em.

You live in FL, right? Better yet, I'll just come down and help ya out. If the amp suddenly turns up missing after I leave. No worry, it's around somewhere....LMAO!!!!!!
