Ok, there has been a lot of Gibson bashing recently down to the looks of some of their recent guitars, but just remember that some of the other big names don't always get it right.

To me, most of the world's best guitar designs came from Gibson from the McCarty era (late 1940's to mid 1960's), which is why I'm disappointed when them come out with an occasional turkey.

But man, some of the other manufacturers have churned out guitars so ugly they hurt my eyes to look at them. What were they thinking?

Gibson can proudly point to many gorgeous models of theirs over the decades, but some of the other makers have most, if not all, ugly designs.

The Charvel star body style isn't really my thing, and might look a tad dated these days, but in the early 80's, hanging from some hair metal guitarist, it looked pretty cool.

Personally, when I first saw the Dean Elite guitars in the late 70's, their appearance didn't really turn me on.

It's kind of an acquired taste.
Put gold hardware, an arched flame maple top and maybe a third pickup on it and suddenly I quite like it.

Personally, I never cared for this retro kind of look that seemed to be really big in the 90's and is still with us now:

...but then again, if I played rockabilly, cowboy punk or certain styles of pop, I'd look for a guitar like that.

And as to the original claim of this thread, yes it's true, Gibson's guitar designers are not the only ones good at dreaming up butt-ugly guitars. And actually, I thought the outcries at the ugliness of some of Gibson's designs had quieted down a bit more here in the last few weeks. Hasn't it been at least two weeks since the the threads about the dusk tiger guitar were hot on this forum?

The black quilt Caddy is gorgeous!! I dont like the v headstock tho..

Akira Takasaki is awesome! The song Heavy Chains is killer! He does some massive whammy bar work which suprises me that he wasnt using a floyd

That almost looks like it has a Danelectro neck on it. Well, the headstock anyways.

I don't disagree.

I do think Fender would be another example of this, albeit honoring a different aesthetic.

Most Fender models look cool in a 50s car kind of way.

Those Dean HUGE ASS Headstocks used to look stupid, until I got one. . . I actually really like them now. . . . weird.

In my humble honest opinion this is THE Ugliest, most unappealing guitar I have ever seen!

I agree they're unappealing to my eyes too, but I've seen worse.

There are some ugly guitars in this thread but that Charvel Star certainly is NOT one of them.
