I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

First off, thanks to the great Motorcop71, in This Link I mentioned if he ever sold it I'd be first in line to buy it. Well, turns out he's not the biggest fan of the 1-3/4" neck, and being such a cool dude, he remembered me and offered it. I jumped on it as soon as I could. ;) I've loved this color (House of Kolors Tangerine) since I started seeing it in hod rod mags 10 years ago. When Mike (XSSIVE, creator of Clone Guitars) first posted pics, I lusted after it. Unfortunately I was a little short of cash when it was first sold so I thought it was gone forever. When Motorcop71 offered it to me, I knew I'd kick myself for a LONG time if I didn't pull the trigger!

So, after great communication, and some astounding dumbness by my postal carrier, here she is. :D

Since I am a terrible photographer, I'll redirect you to Mike's site for further photos... ;)

Mike, this is truely a professional grade instrument! It's passed through a few loving hands since you shipped it, but it's still nearly mint and man is it a cool guitar! It's my first Floyd equipped axe, I'm definately having some fun. It's a Mahogany body, incredibly flamed neck and it's got a Dmz PAF Pro. Hard rock axe to the max. The nut width is a little different than I'm used to, but I think I'll get used to it. Heck, I might need to commision an axe from Mike, this thing is so sweet. Anyway, thanks to Eddie (Motorcop71) and Mike for making this happen. :friday:

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

I'm not too fond of the trem (don't like trems) and the colour, but the neck looks beautiful...nice score!

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

That just might be Mike's best looking guitar yet.

Congrats!

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

Real nice flamed neck!

1-3/4" is kind of wide, but I think I'd just have to learn to deal with it.

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

the nut width does take some getting used to. it feels HUGE at first but you get used to it. my bullseye charvel is a 1 3/4" nut also and it always takes a minute or two to adjust from playing the typical 1 11/16".

man it seems like ages ago that i did that one. it's cool to see the old logo too. that was during my experimenting stage with the 1 3/4" nut width, bigger neck shape and dual acting truss rod and 1pc mahogany body. pretty much just trying to figure out what i liked. i've really learned a lot since i've been working on these guitars and have messed with every aspect of them and learned something new every time. man i've done a lot of these lol...no they're not all on my site, i don't put custom orders on there since they aren't my guitars.

it's a cool guitar for sure...enjoy it!

-Mike

I loved that guitar since that old thread.

I always did wonder what pickup it got in the end.
PAF Pro sounds good!!!

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

It is 80's with a modern flair thanks to the metallic orange. I love it. The PAF Pro is a good pickup for it, a little more modern voice than a standard PAF style, with more mids, it can straddle the lead/rhythm line better than the Custom and JB I'm used to. For being Mahogany, I really don't find it overly dark, and it's more balanced than my other Mahogany/Maple bolt on (heavy mids on that one)

Mike, you found the Tone Zone too dark and muddy for it? I don't think I'd mind a little more meat to it. I wouldn't want to lose any definition but a little more low end... Also, you say this profile is bigger than your current Clone profile? This one's pretty narrow for me, I like it, and maybe it's the width that makes it feel slimmer (it seems like a pretty flat radius too) but I can't imagine much smaller....

Anyway, thanks for the comments, this is a very nicely executed guitar. :)

****, I remember when Mike put that one up for sale first time. I would have bought it if that tax rebate had come in quick enough. Great looking guitar, enjoy it dude!

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

Totally not my style but gorgeous none the less. Great looking axe. Love the neck. Looks really solid.

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

That was my favorite Clone by far. I love the color, and the neck is just amazing.

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

Neck looks incredible, a bit like the Jackson PC1. Not too keen on the colour though, or the one pup config.
Bet it plays amazing. :)

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

Oh wow... usually I'm not a fan of these kinds of guitars but this is total fap material.

Re: I've been a BAD boy... (Clone Guitars #3)

The Clone guitars are quite nice. I'll be firing up #9 (I think that is the right number) tonight at a show.
