I recently bought one of the Indonesian made Adrian Smith Jacksons for a stupid low price. The Jackson is a solid guitar that was very resonant and sounded great unplugged but had room for improvement in a lot of areas. After a few weeks I decided to go into my box of guitar parts that i have collected over the years and do a total refit on the guitar.
The stock Floyd Rose Special was replaced with an early 80's original Floyd Rose. I replaced the tuners, locking nut, pickups and all the electronics with parts I have sitting around. Hardware wise the only piece I bought was the pick guard. The pickups are a Dimarzio AT-1 humbucker, DiMarzion VV 54 and a DiMarzio Fast Track 2. The stock locking nut sat too high so I had to file down the wood on the nut shelf to get things ready for a proper setup...not a big deal really.
After all is said and done I have a pretty sweet guitar that sounds and plays top shelf for a total investment of about 400 dollars.
