Would an Jackson Kelly KE3 sound good with EMG`s 81/81 or 81/60 because
"the sales man" said that it wouldnt sound good beacause of its wood... but a other guy, also a sales man said that it would sound great

so im confussed :smack:

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

it will sound how you want it to sound ... meaning, if you got a good amp it will sound awesome.

EMG's tend to overlook the quality and the construction of the guitar cos they're so damn powerfull the woods dont come through. with actives you dont have to look at wood as much as with passives. passives rely a bit on the guitar and let the guitars character speak up, where actives have their own sound in pretty much every guitar

i hope i didnt confuse yu even more

btw.. the KE3 has only one volume knob right? how does the electronics cavity look on the back? can you fit another pot in there? do you have the guitar? if so can you post a picture of its back?

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

dont have the guitar yet, maybe in a month, thx for the reply

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

I have it, but I do not have the oportunety to take pictures of it.

There is only one volume knob in the KE3 Kelly.

But I must say that I can not understand where the battery is going to be, because it do not seem to be any space for it. But I have heard about people who have EMG's in it though...

I bought a set of Invaders seckond hand for my Kelly, and I am going to get a guy I know to put them in for me as fast as possible. I think they will do the job.

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

mayhem, can you post a pic of the backside of the kelly?

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

maybe its possible to "make" room in the guitar, like remove some wood orsomething... btw if you have pictures just mail them to rubberen_kip@hotmail.com and i`ll put em online

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

I have webspace, but a digital camera...
But, I used my imagination and searched e-bay, because people selling their guitars there often have pictures....

And I found one selling a Ke3 Kelly, and he had the picture you want.

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

well for the battery compartment u could either try to squeeze it in the wiring area (is is really really hard) or u gotta cut up some wood from the Ke and make space.
As for emgs sounding good in a KE, it all depends on what u like and also the amp. but wood of body wise it shouldnt make a big diff if its in mahogany or alder i think,.

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

thanks mayhem, thats all i needed to know =)) there's enough space to fit another pot in =)... plus a DD '59 combo to shred with hehe.. thing is, the guitar is a tad expencive here

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

Can't you pop it under that trem spring cavity? Even if you have to route, it'll be hidden under there.

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

aapje, not everyone can afford 500 straight out of the pocket. i'd have to sell my SG to get the KE3.. and i dont know who'd buy it without pickups, cos i'm not selling my duncans. maybe if i bought the kelly first and swaped them, but then i couldnt sell it for that much

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

well guess im a necro poster but, i finnaly have my kelly, i have it a couple of weeks now and its just great... im still figuring out which pick ups i should place in them though... maybe some good duncans or 81/60... but i have some time on my hands now cuz im broke hihihi :saeek: well i made some money during the summer just gotta collect it.Though i was wondering if i should buy emgs and a Spider 2 amp that would be awsome and i hope i can aford it somewhere around xmas... well anyhow here`s a pic they made in the store i have some more but i have to wait a bit for them though, i`ll post the other ones later :burnout: im the one in the middle

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

dude, of ALL the colors you HAD to chose the most dull of them all, didnt you.. i'm starting to hate black guitars with a passion... why not trans blue? trans red looks like you killed someone and the blood is still dripping on it cos of the flame maple veneer hehe

if i was you, i'd stick with a custom/59 combo. i daresay it will be similar to the 81/60 combo, just warmer and not so sterile sounding.. but if you wish to go for that metallica 'black' album, go for it. the 60's got a great sound clean (if nothing else matters is believable)

Sweet, new Stuff rocks, but new Jacksons rule. Nice pic, too. Are those buddies of yours with the Warlock and the WRMG?

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

yup there my buddies, and btw davey it only came in black so i had no choice ;)

Re: Jackson Kelly KE3 (japanese version) with emg 81/60

Whatever you do, do NOT cut more wood out. You can fit a battery in your wire cavity without a problem, despite lack of space. My JR-20 Pro Rhoads has only one volume knob and I'm using the 81/85 combo in it. Not a problem in the world. ;)
