Jb vs EMG Hz4 clips. HERE ! emgs not bad at all.

ok so now that I got my 2nd guitar, I can finally compare pickups.

Guitar1:
ESP LTD ex.100. basswood body, rosewood board, bolt on, tune-o-matic bridge, Jb/Jazz combo.

Guitar2:
ESP V.350 flying V. mahogany body, rosewood board, set neck, Floyd Rose system, pair of EMG Hz4 bridge.

as you can see, both guitars have the complete opossite features to each other, which makes this interesting.

AMP:
Crate Gt65.

All I did was record the same stuff for each guitar, w/o moving EQs or mic position.

The reason everything is in different files is so that you can download them in mp3s, and play them back to back as you want (its 12 files in total, 6 things for each)

let me know what you think. thanks in advance!

try Lo-FI... its been 2 days "clearing the download" and still doesnt work. click the Lo-Fi version and compare.

hope it works.

sounds pretty good to me, the jb and emg's both have their strong points. i like the emg for the rythm parts better though.

in my opinion the JB beat the EMG in every clip with the closest contest being the solo clip. Good clips though, i want a JB!!

The V-350 has H4s? My V-250 came with H1s in it as far as I can tell, or at most H3s. I guess they could have been put in there, lol.

I liked the EMG's for the rhythm...sounded better, more bass and tigher response. Although I think the JB sounded more alive and it breathed better.
The eq on the EMG for rhythm cuts better and I think would sound good in the mix live and on full band recordings.

I will disagree with you, Chris. The JB had the tighter tone. In the intro to High Speed Dirt, you can hear that the range is broader on the JB. It sounds more full than the EMG. The EMG almost sounds like it has an effect on it. On the intro to High Speed Dirt, it almost sounds as if the guitar is in a hallway echoing. The JB has a very focused, clear tone.

wow I had forgotten about this thread...

Yes mine came with H4. The new ones came with H4s, Mine is from 2002 (new one...)

About the tightness. I think the EMG H4 has more tightness, as if the sound was much more compressed. You can notice in the palm mutings. The PMs with the JB sound more... hairy? airy? haha i dont know how to describe. But they are both great pickups for megadeth. With the JB you can get that rust in peace tone using the right EQ on the amp. That tone where you hear a soft pick scrap during holy wars. Its not bassy and not treble.

With the H4, its so easy to sound like children of bodom (with the right EQ).

I dont know if you noticed, but I did because I use both guitars, that the EMG is SO MUCH quieter than the JB.I almost get no hum from PC/PC monitor/TV that sourrounds me with the H4, whereas with the JB you I do. You can compare noises in the "polaris" recs.

Actually, it removes all scientific objectivity and makes the comparison impossible.... Still nice clips, though...

This is mainly because the EMG is mounted in a guitar with a trem, I can clearly hear the trem springs reverberating in that clip...

I will agree the H4s are above and beyond the ones that came with my V, I tried them out in an EC200 and VB200 and I was actually in awe of how kickass they were (at least out of the Fender 212 that I played them through).

As for the springs, yeah that is a problem, I need to get some foam and put it in my V's trem cavity because I can easily hear it when I'm unamped and it's annoying.
