JCM2000 DSL anyone?

Re: JCM2000 DSL anyone?

i think the dsl50 is a cool amp, especially with some better tubes. find an old mullard for v1 if ya can.
the 50w head and 40w combo are similar in some ways but youll never get the combo to sound like the head. el84 vs el34

I played those few shows with that combo (I beliove it was 100 watts and I know it was a 1x12) and was amazed by how cool that amp was...like the guys are saying...great cleans with good reverb, gret crunch tones, easy to use...all in all a great amp. So I went on a hunt...what I found was a TSL head and it sucked rocks.

I don't know what you played, but the only DSL combo amp from Marshall is the DSL201 (20 watts) and DSL401 (40 watts). Both are EL84 tubed and sound nothing like the DSL50 or DSL100.

The DSL50 and DSL100 are to me, the most Marshall sounding of the JCM2000 lineup. I had and eventually sold a DSL50, DSL401 and TSL601 (60 watts). I could never get the TSL to sound right. I changed the speaker, tubes, and different bias settings and it sounded like total a$$. The DSL401 was pretty good but they run hot and the EL84s just don't have that harmonic crunch that EL34 tubes can produce. I sold my DSL50 because I found the Silver Jubilee I was looking for and although the Jub is not as versatile as the DSL, it sounds more like the Marshall sound I've heard through the 70' and 80's.
