Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

My amp broke down onstage recently and I wound up playing through a new Pro Junior that was onstage. Sounded pretty darned good.

I've been gathering info on those amps ever since. Some sites say Beck uses a Celestion G10 speaker in his Pro Juniors.

Sure ..if you call what those amps are after the Fender Custom shop gets done with it a "Pro. Jr.".

I'm surprised to see that DSL onstage. Someone just now offered me a DSL 50 with the full $1000.00 Voodoo Amps mod for my Super Reverb reissue.

That's something I was hoping to discover: have they been modified by Fender or not? A lot of guys are using them. Dickie Betts, Warren Haynes, Eric Clapton... Maybe not exclusively, but they do use them.

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

dickey was using marshalls every time ive seen him for the past 10+ years
warren uses a slo100 and cd100 most of the time.
clapton has been using his tweed twins since they came out

i know warren used a pro jr on a few parts recording but not sure about the others.
jeff has been using the dsl/pro jr rig for a while now. not sure if they are stock or what but he is jeff beck so the laws of the universe dont necessarily apply

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

I've seen Jeff Beck live several times & the only thing I've ever seen on stage are Marshall's Never saw him play through any Fender..

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

I'm not an authority on what Beck uses, but I don't see why he wouldn't use Pro Jrs. They're cheap, simple and eminently giggable. Sort of like the Strat itself come to think of it.

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

I was a huge Beck fan for a while. According to his tech the Pro Juniors were stock other than the speakers which were from MojoTone. He had the DSL rig and the Pro Juniors on top. According to the interview he used the DSLs on one or two songs each night that tour and the rest of them were the Pro Junior. When I saw him (first row baby!) he had the Pro Junior/DSL rig.

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

Jeff goes between several things these days...mostly a pair of Pro Jr's and a JTM-45 head and now and again a DSL50.

The PJ's are reported to be stock aside form tubes and speakers, the JTM-45 is a vintage unit and the DSL50 is one of 3 prototypes that Jeff owns and swears that the productions units sound nothing like his...

Warren uses a Blues Jr and a Pro Jr in the studio quite a bit, a good example is Broke Down on the Brazos from By A Thread...Warren and Billy Gibbons go back and fourth trading solo bits, Billy with a LP and an 18 watt Marshall and Warren with a LP and a Blues Jr...the Pro Jr made it onto a couple of recordings a few years back...

The Pro Jr is a cool little amp for sure...not a lot of features (volume and tone!) but a cool tone overall.

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

As much as I've been playing out lately, I'm feeling like my old 60's Fenders are just not reliable enough. All that's gotta happen is to have one go down in the middle of a show one out of ten times to make me think that, and that's about what's been happening.

So I'm thinking very seriously about selling something and picking up a pair of Blues Juniors and running them in "stereo". Would be well, well under a grand for two and I think that might be a killer rig.

One just sold on Ebay for under $300. I think I could get two for under $700 if I was patient.

Warren and Derek are both pretty hooked on the PRS amps these days now also!

I think you could get 2 for under $450 if you were patient. I saw one go for $190 about a year ago and another go for $210 about 3 months ago.

That would be nice!

The one I saw go on Ebay for under $300 was new in a sealed box.

Yeah... mine sold for $225 on ebay last february or sometime around there. Be patient man. They are still one of my favorite amps around now. If I had the money I would pick another up and I still look at them from time to time.

I'd do it if I were you...in fact I've been thinking hard about getting something less nice than my old Fenders and my Mission simply because I am gigging a lot more lately and hate all the added wear and tear!

If you get 2 of 'em put different speakers in 'em and roll with it.

Not as much as you might think...Warren still had his SLO's, Plexi's and Diaz amps and uses them as much as ever before...same for Derek and his old Super Reverbs but both of them have added those ugly as sin PRS amps to the fold!

Just stating that they both have been using the PRS product is all....

Re: Jeff Beck: still using Fender Pro Juniors?

Check that huge backline out. :D

That's what I'm talking about. Great two amp rig for maybe $500 - 600.

Might also need to include two new 10" speakers eventually. I don't know.

Wonder if he's going through a Klon?

They are good speakers. I like those little guys. They are brighter than average but they still sound great. Use the tone knob and you'll be fine.....
