Joyo Crunch Distortion...

Hey guys,

This one is not junk!

I suppose it's sorta M.I. Audio Crunchbox. I do not have the opportunity to AB them two, but still I think (from what I remember about the Crunchbox) Joyo's has less gain but sounds (to me) a bit more amp like with more bass and all...

The build is definitely not the best. The battery does not sit tight, both sides of the backplate looks cheap. But still it does not sound bad at all!

I have got the Sweet Baby and it has a permanent place on my board for a low gain OD.....so responsive.

Mine too, I can't forsee ever abandoning it. For the price you pay, these things are killer. I want to collect them all!!!

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

I've got the US Dream, Vintage OD and Sweet Baby. All good pedals to my ears.
Might have to look at the OCD clone too

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

I've got the Joyo british and I manage some fantastic tones out of it. Will definitely be looking to expand my Joyo collection as soon as possible.

Clip sounds good!

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

I am always on the prowl for a US Dream (Suhr Riot).

Joyo rocks it, for the price. Yeah - it's not road worthy per se, but how many can you get for the price of a boo-geek pedal? Rehouse it and still save.

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

I have the Joyo Vintage Overdrive and Vintage Phase and I love 'em! Thinkin' about that Sweet Baby.... :naughty:

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

Yesterday I used this pedal in my regular setup with Blues Jr. and all... The other dirt pedals are Lovepedal AMP11, Timmy, and Xotic BB preamp Andy Timmons version. It clearly was beaten. Yet, it was not destroyed and that's a quite a cool thing. Afterall the other pedals are somewhat pricey or hard to find. Indeed, I had to spend some time to get Joyo CD's voice out of the others.

What I have found out are:

Joyo CD is very cool. Has a very nice voice that fits the Blues Jr. very nicely.

But, Joyo CD has a nice voice. But that's it. It does not give much flexibility. Volume is not that effective (I am using my Blues Jr. just before sailing into the saturation seas - Master vol 12 and volume 5). It is sort of on or off... Gain is more effective and so is tone. The pedal is not gainey tho. Xotic BB AT is much more gainey and has more compression. Joyo is a bit dark, I had to use the tone around 3 o'clock all the time.

To sum up... This pedal is not junk! It is well worth the money. It has a very good inherent tone and if you are into that particular tone, you will be satisfied. This cheap pedal will be your solution. Yet, if you are looking for just a bit versatility ... well look somewhere else.

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

I tell anyone who asks about it (and some who don't). The look on their faces is priceless when I tell them my main pedal is a $25 overdrive.

LOlz..would you wear a "Joyo Pedals" T-shirt at one of your gigs? When pros are talking KOTS and Centaurs backstage, would you chip in with, "Well, I play Joyo"? or.."wow , man, I'm really diggin' this First Act overdrive".

it wouldn't bother me...but then again I actually play gigs Jer.

Re: Joyo Crunch Distortion...

As long as is sounds good....doesn't matter what brand it is.

Pretty much. My last two gigs were played with a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster, mostly Joyo and Mooer pedals (I have a couple of MXR's snuck in there too) and a DC-5. Just because my guitar didn't cost $1000, or my pickups $200+ each, doesn't mean I have to be embarrassed by my gear. At my gig last Thursday another guitar player came up to me and was asking me what pickups were in my tele (they are the stock Duncan Designed ones), when I told him, and told him what overdrive I was using, he was blown away. He said he'd spent at least $1,200 on pickups and pedals in the last year and half and hadn't found his tone. (I wanted to tell him that tone is all in the fingers, but thought that might come off as rude.)

Absolutely I would.
