I think my recent search for a OD/Distortion pedal is over. These are the reissue ones that are MIJ just like the originals (same specs!) and i am very impressed!!! For $99 i don`t think you can find a better OD pedal then these! Didn`t have the cash on me or i would have taken it home. As soon as i get paid on Friday i`m going to pick one up!! Anyone have or try one of these?

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

Now send it to John Spina and never look back at an OD again.

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

Congrats!

I played my buddies TS9 and TS808, but I never really cared for either. They sound Great for some people, but for me it just wasn't there.

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

I like the TS-808 better than the TS-9. It's easy to convert a 9 to an 808 though. Just a couple part swaps at the output and presto chango....LOL.

However, I'm really enjoying my Boss SD-1 that's now a TS-808 under the hood. ;)

I should also note that I'm not a huge Tubescreamer fan to begin with but they can be made to sound better to my ears.

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

Everybody should own one, really. It ought to come with your Les Paul, along with the Pearly Gates neck pup....

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

Is that one of those mods you can do?

I cant mod anything, its impossible and crime agaist humanity. John Spina is a forum bro by the nick of STRUTDELUXER, he makes phenom mods to TS9, I love mine, if you love creamy, bright crunch typically associated with a super strat through marshalls of late 70s to mid 80s you cant go wrong. I do more of modern euro power metal thing and it drives my Laney AOR so sweet never can get enough.

I didn`t get one yet,i just tried one at GC today. To my ears it sounded right! As far as pedals go there hasn`t been many that i`ve tried that i was really impressed with right out as i was with this one. I will be picking one up hopfully on Friday.

One other thing.......what`s with this pedal and the Maxon TS9? Are they like the same pedal or did one company copy the other or are they connected in some way?

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

I like the Bad Monkey better- and its cheaper. The 2 knob eq can get rid of the weird mid thing that the TS has.

Well, that's who originally made the pedals for Ibanez back in the 80s. Alledgedly its better assembly and higher grade components. If you do a search here you would find a thread where RID comments on the differences of CS9 a complementary chorus to TS9, between Maxon and Ibanez RI. BTW, RID hates TSs :13:

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

I like the TS9 better than the 808, but I went for the TS9DX for the added versatility.

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

The Tube Screamer sound is a funny thing. It's got that well-known mid-frequency hump that people seem to either love or hate. The pedal is talked about and used as a yardstick often enough that there's got to be something classic to it. It's all a matter of whether or not that sound is a proper expression of the tone you're after.

In some applications, the TS is a perfect fit for me; in others, I need to reach for a different pedal. Glad to hear you've finally discovered the tone for yourself, Moonsorrow.

Ok thanks! I knew it must have been something like that.

Also as someone stated some people love this pedal and some hate it,it`s all about what tone sounds good to each person and something about this pedal sounded right to me! I wish i tried it sooner but i`ve never been much of a pedal guy!

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

i love my modded ts9...so much so that i use 2 of them in my chain :eyecrazy:

There seem to be a few big-name artists who do/did this, including SRV and Trey Anastasio. I've never tried it, but I'll bet it's a great combo (assuming you dig the TS tone).

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

First i have to get the pedal then i`ll think about the mod after!!! *lol*

I checked out the Bad Monkey,it was ok but nowhere near the the quality in sound and construction as the Ibanez imo!

Re: Juat tried an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer....WOW!!

Tube Screamers rule! I will say this though. The HBE Power Screamer takes the few gripes I have with a TS and fixes them. IMO it's the best there is!

I would open up your TS-9 and take a look at the circuit board. I opened up my TS-9 reissue, and imprinted on the circuit board was "Maxon". Either Maxon is still producing these units for Ibanez, or just supplying the circuit boards.

I still modded mine by adding a 4558 chip and switching resistors
