Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

Bullet Proof Toneologist
I just got this amp as an early xmas present. At 220.00 bucks I couldn't resist. I LOVE THIS THING!!!! Running it dimed in the low gain input is a wonderful thing. It opens up just like a non master Marshall which I did not expect. Has a lot of bottom end similarities to my Carlsbro. Very lush bass response. I have been messing for 3 days with this thing and now regard it as one of my best amp scores to date. I like the high gain input, but the low gain input is heaven for me. This amp needs nothing... I am useing a set of G12 70s 1978 or so. I am starting to like higher watt speakers again and loaded one high and the other cab with some vintage Alnicos. Best of both worlds for me.

Quick clip, Mass set to 5, 62 RI Strat with a High Order 8.2 A2 custom wind.

I gotta start playing some new lead licks :smack: :smack: I end all my clips the same way.

Very very cool tone, and an even cooler score! I was thinking about buying one of those a while back, I might have to when I get an extra 250 or so. How 'bout some higher gain clips, as well??

That's A Cool Amp !! I got One coming my way in a trade . If it's like the
one I'm getting? You can Change the speaker load from 16 to 8 to 4. I
love that option ! I think the one I'm getting has a Mackenzie speaker
in it. I'm happy with the tone your getting from yours. I haven't heard
the one I'm getting (It needs grid resistor,I think?) I was afraid it might
have to much of a 80's Metal tone. I'm looking for the Classic Brit. tone.
Now I've heard your clip I'm sold. I'll be calling the guy tommorrow.

Wow, it really sounds like a plexi...especially towards the end.

It is really interesting, the high gain input is total 80s metal, very nice and aggressive but not as open and rich. The low gain input with the master dimed and pre on 6 got me this tone. It is honestly like haveing two different amps, the difference is that dramatic. There is a Plexi sitting in these things :burnout: , the British flavor is extremely strong. You should be a happy man!!

Heheh nice catch dude!
Sounds great too!

I also prefer the LOW input on my Laney GH50L... :) HIGH is too much for me. LOW has that breathy-airy tone you described. More vintage, whereas the HIGH has some serious balls.

Re: Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

Hmm ever since that I heard the Swedish madman Matthias Eklundh used a Laney I have been thinking about getting one, either a 100 or a 50 watts top.
:DAnd your clip did not make it any better for me;)

ive heard a lot about this amp. actually, i have heard its very much like a marshall sound. and from the clips, that seems to be true!

Sweet. With tone like that, you're causing a big Laney GAS uprising on this forum, Kevlar! :laugh2: :)

Congrats on the new amp,the clip sounds great.I have always liked Laneys, from what I understand the low input bypasses the extra preamp tube, which is why that channel gets so close to the marshall sound....More clips please!! :)

Re: Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

Nice clip, the 1st riff reminds me of Badlands ... Is the 50W head an EL34 amp? I have a Pro Tube 30 (the one with the pull pots) that I've had since about 1986, and it uses 6V6's, and I've yet to get a sound I like from it!!!

Hey guys thanks!! Really loving this 200.00 amp.

I figured that 4th tube was not in action on the low gain. I honestly do not care for the hi gain channel for that reason, the amp does not breathe the same way. When I get a chance I will throw some more noise up.

I love Badlands, any comparison is very highly appreciated. I have heard no good about those 30 watt heads, I really wanted one but I keep hearing the same thing about them being tough to get decent sounds out of. The Pro Tube 50 is EL34 equipped. Well worth the pennies it takes to find one, honestly don't know why I didn't get one years ago. I figured it would be a solid gigging amp but I know really look forward to some studio time with it. I love underdog amps, my basement is filled with em right now.

Re: Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

I just heard the gh50l 50 watt head tonight. Sounds killer. Then I looked at what they're going for on the net these days...$699, $649, etc.

Holy ****! :scared:

Re: Just got a 1986 Laney Pro Tube 50 ( clips)

I found a 100w Laney AOR Pro Tube 100 head for a good price, played it for a while and could never really get 'into' it so I planned to sell it.

Your clips have made me want to sit down and play with this amp again!
