Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

just chiming in....i dont personaly like relic or falsely aged guitars......i dont find them pretty or desirable to me at all.....if they start pretty and get worn fine...but to pay extra for some body to take sand paper and a hammer to a guitar..nah you can keep it......remember those evh frankenstein aged clones for some stupid price of ..what was it 20 grand?

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

Well to be frank, the idea makes more money than we think. Relics are the only ones that are a "collectible" item right from the shop one way or another. I personally only like them while browsing through a Fender catalogue on the toilet. I like a sparkly clean guitar and all of my guitars are true minters besides sweat swirls here and there and strap pigmentations... I'm sure most of the Claptons, Gilmours etc. keep their bedroom sweethearts mint even though we see them with beat up skeletons of what was once a guitar on the stage.

These companies make big money. Plus almost any 'quality' guitar is a bit overpriced... Just today I was setting up a guitar and the guy brought Gibson Les Paul signature strings and the package says they were carefully blended to be soothing to the instrument and optimal for likings of Mr. Paul. I just don't buy that crap, what they should really say is that if you have toothpick fingers or are afraid of fretting, these are for you because the tension sucks. They are floppier than a floppy drive.

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I had one that played great, had to sell it, and just bought another one.
Great guitars IMHO.
I bought both used, of course.
As for the finish, which I think is ok, my theory is: "Just because I take a belt sander to my girlfriend, doesn't mean I've been with her for 20 years"
:-)

Enjoy life!

Re: Just played a road worn strat! LMAO!

I honestly do not get the "relic" concept at all. I can see some of the Custom Shop signature replica models where they're made to be an exact copy of some artist's instrument down to the finest detail, but just a generic "relic" guitar seems utterly pointless to me. Road Worn aside, I think some of these private builder and Custom Shop "heavy relic" guitars look ridiculous. I have never seen a real guitar that looks as badly worn as some of those. I mean, many of them don't look like a guitar that's been heavily played, they look like someone left the guitar outside on the fire wood pile for 10 years. They don't look like guitars that have been played hard and loved, they look like guitars that have been badly mistreated.

Guys ... who cares about any of that ... post #144 is the most incredible thing that's ever happened on this forum.
