Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

....And I am in love....

I went down to the music store in Aarhus, that allways has about 6 different Les Pauls. I plugged some standards and classics in, and they just sounded thin, dead and didnt have any sustain

Then I saw a Les Paul Custom Classic.. not my favorite with the aged binding, but after playing it acoustically, I then plugged it in to a Marshall 1987X head, used a THD hot plate infront of it, and cranked it to about 6 (no body except a salesman was there) and it was one of the best sounds I have heard in my life.

It was rich, warm and fat sounding, good note quality, and a immense sustain.

I am so hooked up for it now, but I have a problem. My parents have made a saving up account for me, which I will be able to use when I am 21. But I must admit, that after trying this guitar, it is even almost as good as my Charvel. I really connected with that guitar, that I want to use my money for it. Hell, a friend of mine, who owns a lot of strats and teles from the 1950s and 1960s and who hate les pauls, said it was a great guitar.

I see it as a investment, as I will be able to use the guitar to make money doing music in the future, and because I really want a brand new kick-a$$ instrument for my stay at music school.

Anyways, what do you think of the guitar? Would it be a good purchase?

And, how would you persuade the old folks that it is a good investment, in order for me to buy?

Thanks.

Btw a picture. The only different is that it has a golden truss rod cover... I will change that to a black one..

beautiful. ive loved those since ive seen it a few months ago

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Great guitar. I thought they looked sweet too when they first came out, ven tho they aren't technically correct for a custom LP.

BTW - is it hollow - er, I mean chambered? I've been telling everybody here that chambered LP's sound just as sweet, if not sweeter than a solid body LP.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

They are chambered yes.. I discussed this with my friend, and after Gibson began chambering them, they sound alot better than alot of 90s LPs :D

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Haha I know this was comming.

Well... After trying every guitar in that store, that Gibson is just not comming of my mind.

The only other guitar that really appealed, was a ESP KH-2 Vintage.. But I just dont think I want another superstrat... Especially not a relic :)

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

It does actually.. And I tried that very same one in the store, except it has the real LP style horn and 4 buttons.

But somthing about that les paul just clicked with me, like I was playing better.

It was harder to play than the KH-2, and I couldnt get some tapping done, but I guess the I need to adjust to playing lead on that neck. It was KILLER for rhythm guitar work.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

I wouldn't mind having one either, although I've been going deeper and deeper into Fender-land for the past several years.

My LP Custom has aged binding like that, and it'll start to grow on you, the more you see it next to the gold hardware. All I know is that black LP's are about the sexiest guitar a person can have strapped on. They just scream quality and class.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Excactly Gearjoneser, and I must admit, NO other guitar screams sex as much as a Les Paul...

So now the hard part, how would you convince my dad to lend me the money? I see it as a future investment, both for having fun but also for facilitating money making :)

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

I like it a lot, but I wouldn't recommend it as an investment. It will not appreciate, even though I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it. 21 is four years away, why not save money and buy it yourself? Then you can invest the savings account in a real investment.

(Sorry to rain on your parade, I'm just looking out for you. ;) When I was 19 I REALLY wanted a Gibby LP, but that would have been 3 months of work right there. Looking back, I'm glad I spent that money on school instead of a guitar, although I'd still love the guitar now.)

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

I know that stuff Darkside... The problem is, I have tried around 50LPs.. Customs, standards, VOS stuff etc.. this one has been THE best guitar.. I meant as a investment for playing in bands to earn money from playing :)

Thanks bro.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Oh wait, maybe I missed you point. You want to borrow the money now instead of in 4 years? Come up with a plan of how you can earn the money to pay it back and stick with it. I bet that will swing him to your side.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Well I already have the money.. Its just that they are on a closed account until I am 21.. so it was only a advance if you want :)

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

I wouldn't think of it as an investment either, but...

when you find "the tone" in a guitar, you need to get that guitar because you may not find it again anytime soon. If you are lucky and you do find better tone in the future, you can sell the Gibson and lose no money or very little money.

I recommend that you try and get it, IF you really find it special. If it's just infatuation with a new toy, you may not be happy in the long run, but so what, you can sell it.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

The good thing about Denmark is that a brand new Les Paul Classic cost about 2500-2700USD and they fetch a easy 2300USD here. So selling it wouldnt be a problem.

I am gonna talk to my dad about it as I just cannot stop thinking about that guitar

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Looks like a sexy guitar. Nice gold look to it.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

Les Pauls have been kind of all over the map with their sound. At least that's been my experience from playing the ones in music stores (which I haven't done in years actually).

Allthough, I'm not really sure if that's because the individual instruments are that much different, or if it's more of a setup issue. Because things you wouldn't normally think about, like small changes in pickup heights, can make or break a guitar.

I only mention this because if you can't swing a deal on this Les Paul Custom Classic, the next Custom Classic the store gets might not sound anything like this one.

Re: Just tried a Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic...

The Gibson looks like an ESP, must be the unmistakable body shape of the Eclipse.

I really like the LPCC but the necks on the 2 I played were very thin, a little too thin for my tastes. Really nice looking though.

Dude - sounds like that guitar passed the booby test. get it and don't look back - or face a lifetime of regret.

I prsonally don't like it for all kinds of reasons. But then, I love 70's LP's.

Ignore everything and everyone about that guitar except what your ears, hands and heart told you. I think they said buy it.
