Skinny slab of mahogany plus P90(s) is a recipe for fun - no matter what name you hang on it. IMO, a hotter than vintage bridge/Treble pickup would help.

I'm glad you pointed that out, I never noticed before. They still may be steel poles with the bar mags inside, just not adjustable. They don't say, so who knows?.
As for the color selection, that TV Yellow is the only one I'd consider, but to me it screams out for a black pickguard. For the other colors, I wish they had at least gone for the good old Sunburst and Cherry finishes.

True, not crazy about the inlay and honestly I hate the look of the butter bean keys also. Since they have already altered the look with the headstock change, IMO they shoulda just put in some grovers too.. haha. would be a cool, lite, p90 rock machine

If there is something I've learned over the years, in buying and selling guitars, is that if I don't dig the guitar 100% when I buy it, the odds are that it won't stay with me very long. If I really wanted the guitar, I'd just wait another year and get one without the eyesore inlay.

Man I have to say, saw one of these at GC today... I was so dissapointed. I know its a lot of guitar for the price but there were flaws everywhere. The pickups were alright and the neck was comfortable, but the paint job was terrible and the fretwork left a lot to be desired. Even with the PLEK there was buzzing all over the place. I'm a Paul' lover but this one didn't sing to me. However. If you want a Gibson with midrange Epiphone quality this is the guitar for you. Very lightweight as well.

Thats what I was afraid of. Honestly, IMO (for what thats worth) some of the new low line Gibson models coming out now actually make Epis look very good. Epi is making some great guitars these days.

I agree. I had the choice to buy one of these or an Epi and I bought the Matt Heafy model and converted it to passive and slapped some chrome hardware on it. It plays like a dream. The Epi had a better setup out of the box than the Gibson on display

Yeah, and the yellow one is the best color they offer IMO, check out the super ugly gray color version. Why they chose these terrible colors is beyond me. And what are those weird P90's with non-adjustable polepieces?. Do they even sound like a regular P90?. And again, a pickguard would have helped on these, whether you need one on a beautifully-grained burst finish is a matter of taste, but on these plain colors it would have helped a lot. But then again, it might have added a couple of dollars to the price!.

Not looking for an argument, but as the only guy on this forum who actually owns this guitar, I guess it falls to me to speak up for it.
Seeing these reactions is a little strange. Usually, SDUGF is where you go for celebrations of cheap players' guitars. You can find a boutique-fest at other forums. This is where you go to appreciate the Mexican Teles and the parts-casters.
Bottom line for me: This is my least expensive electric guitar, and right now, it's my favorite.
It stays in tune, sustains and resonates better than any of my other guitars, with the exception of my Martin 000-28. I have to move it away from my body while playing it seated, the resonating is so pronounced. I don't need to do that with my American Tele, which is a good guitar. Say what you will about the finish, in no way does it impede playability, tone or projection.
It does everything. And by "everything," I mean, everything I could want it to do. With my Marshall Class 5, it's pure AC/DC or Live at Leeds-era Townshend. With a Princeton and a tubescreamer, it sings. Punk, rock, jazz, blues -- it's all within reach. Through a friend's JTM-45 clone, I swear it cops late 60s/early 70s metal better than any guitar I've played, even with the single-coils. With blues, it's fatter than a Five Guys burger. I guess if nu-metal or whatever it's called this year is your bag, then this guitar won't be for you.
The P-90s, for the record, aren't new. They hearken back to the pole-piece single-coils that Gibson invented in 1946. It's a return for Gibson, not a departure. And yes, they sound like P-90s. Gibson knows how to make this kind of pickup.
I have no illusions about this thing. It's not quite a Les Paul, not quite an LP Jr., not quite a classic Melody Maker. Some people won't know what to make of it. Fine.
But it is its own bad self: A nitro-finished, American-made guitar for less than a poly-finished Korean PRS contract model.
It's not for everyone. I get that. But it's one manufacturer's answer to constant complaints about the prices of quality American-made instruments.
Finally, I like the inlay. Bypassing this guitar for that reason alone is incredibly TGP.
