HUH ?

What the hell ???

I just saw in the July edition of GUITAR WORLD, that Munky (he from KORN) is advertising/endorsing the Vox AC 30 (see page 71)

Can anyone explain ?

From Mesa RoadKings to AC30's ?

It is not as if Korn use any clean tones in their sound.

they don't use a whole ton of gain either though. Whatever perceived heaviness comes from the guitar sound is due to the 7 strings and the EQ, not gain.

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

I could be wrong, but I think he just uses those for clean stuff.

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

it's probably the Vox for the cleans and a Mesa for the heavies. everything's in isocabs so it could just be AMT pedals in there.

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

Marty Friedman "endorsed" Crate amps for a while, and that was for cabinets on stage and ocassional studio work.

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

I can get some pretty heavy tones out of my AC-30, it's not easy & I've got about $2,000 worth of gear helping me do this??? Metal Muff's work really well in front of a VOX so that's a good place to start for heavier stuff??? Munky on a AC does seem strange though??? Maybe he's using a A/B box & switching amps?

IF we believe everything that Brian May says in the media . . . this tone is also 100% Vox AC30.

Probably the 'heaviest' (most aggressive tone) i have heard him use on an album !

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

LOL... Vox is the sound of Korn like a Mesa Triple Rec is the sound of Mark Knopfler.

Re: Korn now using Vox AC 30's ?

IF you watch the VOX All Access video he (Munky) talks about using it just for clean tones in the studio and now he will use it for clean tones live as well.

I'm not sure how a Korn/AC-30 Top boost thread became about Brian May but I'm quite sure he could have got that sound form a stack of AC-30's? I'm not saying he's plugged directly into the amps? I can get a much Heavier tone than that from mine??? I'm also pretty sure he's using either pre or post gain effects to get his sound in that song? You also have to remember Brian May has some of the best amp guys in the world @ his disposal, & I know more than one of his wall of AC-30's has been modified in some way!!! Getting back on subject Munky is endorsing them & he also uses them. Does he only have a AC on stage with a microphone hanging over it plugged into a P.A.? NO!!!!!!! That's just silly, he would use it for clean or clean-ish stuff? I doubt the article said he only uses AC-30's???? When you endorse something you would typally have a clause in the contract that says you have to be seen using it @ so many public events & mention it so many times in interviews, exe, exe? He probably got some t-shirts too, but he's not going to get sued if he's seen playing a Tele out of a Twin Reverb either???
