Kramer American Liberty from way back, Bloodrose this post is for you.

Here are the only photos I have of the Kramer American Liberty I posted about in the "Is Eddie Van Halen lining his pockets" thread. Bloodrose asked about it so I scanned the photos just now to post them. This guitar played like butter, was the most solid guitar I ever picked up and it was a neck thru design. It had EMG active pickups, though I don't know which ones. I had black Kramer Baretta which I paid around $250 for that I bought in 86 or 87 used that I traded for this guitar not too long after. I didn't like the way the Baretta played (knew nothing about setups and had a tech just about ruin an Ibanez doubleneck so I didn't trust them.) so I put it up for sale. Some guy calls me and says he has this guitar and would trade me straight up, so I checked it out and I did.

I loved the diamond inlays and it even had a master volume! Around 1990 or 1991 I worked with a guy who saw a photo of it and offered me a Marshall "stack" for it. It was a 73 50 watt breadboard head with the original slant cabinet which had been recovered in orange tuck and roll material, and a Sound City bottom cab. I took the trade. I later gave the Sound City to my neighbor because he needed a cab (I'm a nice man, huh?) and sold the half stack for...$500 in 1992 to buy my first house, along with the afformentioned doubleneck. As you can see in the photos, I was a musclecar and Led Zeppelin fan; still am. That long purple thing in two of the pics is a camshaft for a 440 engine, and the metal thing in the case next to it is a pistol grip shifter, although you can't see the shifter, lol. Anyway, here are the pics of the big fish that I let get away.

I remember one of those turning up in mint condition and used at a Sam Ash around 2001. It was black- I could've got it for $500, and I regret I didn't. It was, however an extremely heavy guitar.

Yes, it was heavy but oh was it sweet. I wasn't crazy about the pickups at the time, but boy do I WWWIIISSSHHH I had it back. :banghead:

Thanks Bro! Wow, amazing!! I grew up in a Chevy household (Dad had a 63 Chevy Impala convertable with a 409 and my Bro has a 68 Nova built to the gills pushing 850 street legal ponies) but I LOVE them Cudas!!!!!!
I Esp loved the purple one I saw in a mag a couple yrs ago. I went against the grain and had a 79 Trans am.. haha

LOVE That guitar tho!! I love Kramers and that is like the Filet mignon of Kramers!! It just dawned on me why I have been drawn to that new PV model that is kinda like the modern Vandy.. It resembles the cutaways on this one..

I really appreciate you putting this up just for lil ole me.. Im drooling now.. I guess Ill use this opportunity to let the cat out of the bag that I just snagged another Kramer.. ( I cant afford it,but couldnt pass it by)
Its a 1988 Japanese version of a Stagemaster, which was just one notch below the liberty in the model lineup. This is my neck thru Kramer. Here is a preliminary pic:

Oh man, what a find! I'd rather have that since I like the s/s/h setup better. Good luck with it. Sheesh, that's a beauty. DON'T SELL IT OR TRADE IT, HA HA. I acutally had a 73 barracuda convertible that I was restoring. She was JUST about on the road when I sold that as well to buy my first house. I put a 383 in it for the time being until I could get the 440 out of my fury convertible and built for the swap. Good stuff them hot rods. I had a few Mustangs too, 66 & 67 as well as a Cadillac hearse and 64 convertible. Most at different times of course. :14:

Yeah, I knew you would like those pics. I love that guitar you're getting now too. Looks like the Liberty neck too.

Someone has one on ebay now as well. Geez, I wish I had the cash to snag it. I've searched for another Liberty since I've been on the net and never saw one. Wouldn't do me any good now since I'm broke, but one day...

Bloodrose, are you familiar with Dennis Kline, the guy who did all the custom paint/graphic designs for Kramer? He was my cousin's best friend and they grew up together until my cousin passed away in 1977. He painted my cousin's guitar and I spoke with him in the 80s about it. He told me it was the very first guitar that he ever painted. He sent me a binder full of pictures of all the guitars and designs which I still have.

Did I mention that I own the guitar?

It's a 1968 Epiphone Casino that was originally red. My cousin hacked off the lower horn to get better fret access, lol. I was pretty dumb and let someone talk me into doing a new fretboard in the late 80s when I brought it to him to have a new face put on. The original had caved in, probably from the horn mod. The new face has extra bracing and has been fine since 1992. It's a great sounding guitar with, believe it or not, a JB in the bridge. The neck is a P90 and is pure butter.

Re: Kramer American Liberty from way back, Bloodrose this post is for you.

Re: Kramer American Liberty from way back, Bloodrose this post is for you.

Interesting. Mine is the same shape, same inlays, just no body binding and diff controls.. Guess they are close.. I'll tell you.. the single coils dont impress me, but the way this thing plays is outta site.. wow. happy camper am I

Re: Kramer American Liberty from way back, Bloodrose this post is for you.

Which one, the Tor Red or the Lemon Twist? I still have them both, just not the guitar. :banghead:

i had the red one, now you've got me wondering why i had them (cause they were cool?) and where they went?

Re: Kramer American Liberty from way back, Bloodrose this post is for you.

This thread sure makes me miss my old '86 Dayglo Pink Stagemaster Custom. :(
