hi,

anyone have any experience with this mini tube stack? I know it's pretty new.

does Krank make quality tube amps?

just shopping around for home/practice rig for thrash metal...all-tube, if possible.

thanks!

I use a Rev Jr pro, and like it alot. But, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
If you have a problem with the amp, warranty work takes forever.

I sent mine in for a feedback problem and all they did was change out a brand new tube, that I had just put in and didn't fix a damn thing. It took 4 months to get the amp back, and all the problem was, "which they don't bother to tell you," is the fx loop has to have a cable in it, and it has to be switched on.
If you don't, the amp will feedback to an uncontrollable level. It's not cool.

Other than that, it's a great low watt, high gain amp. It'll do trash with the gain on 2.

The Krankenstien is just a modded version of the Rev. Both will get you where you need to be.

Just the other day I plugged into my buddy's Jet City, I juiced it up with a tube screamer and it did thrash great.

If it's an EL-84 powered amp, I'd advise against it for thrash. EL-84's get real squishy at high volumes. No EL-84 amp that I've ever played has stayed tight enough for thrash rhythms, even with a boost in front. I think it's just the nature of the tube.

Just my observation...

Edit: nevermind. If the 20w truly uses 5881s, you'll be fine:

it's got a pair of 5881's

so as long you've got something in the f/x loop, and keep the loop on, it doesn't feedback. wtf? did Krank ever give you an explanation for this? is it just a poor design I guess?

rats....I was hopeful about that little stack.

thanks!

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad amp. I really do like the amp for what it does.
It has a super tight, hard hitting bottom end, and an overall nice modern feel to it. they just don't tell you a few things up front, and you need to know these things.
Plus, warranty work is super slow, "at least in my experience."

I use mine in stereo with another amp, and it helps fill out the weak, lacking, tight bottom end, of a low wattage, dual EL-84 style amp.

I really wouldn't know what to do without it at this point in time, it's just not the lead amp in the group. It's basicly the Pips, and needs a Gladys Knight.

I don't really want to talk bad about Krank, I just don't want to make them out to be something they're not. :friday:
