Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

TODAY MARKS the beginning of my fourth complete build. The menu for this build is as follows:

-25" Scale (PRS Scale)
-Neck through design
-Solid, one piece Walnut neck
-Ebony Fretboard, no inlays, just side dots
-Ivory Graphtech Nut
-Padauk Wings (I'm going to chamber them, Padauk is heavy!
-Zebrawood Top
-Clear Poly Lacquer coat on all of that
-Gold hardware
-Hipshot Griplock tuners
-Gold Floyd Rose with brass trem block, flush mounted
I have a Gibby PAF 57' Model gold covered bucker that a friend gave me.
I haven't decided yet what I'm going to put in the neck. My personal Favorite has always been the Pearly Gates but recently I tried a quarter pound which was an interesting change. We shall see, I'm open to recommendations.

I'm thinking I'm going to do a Les Paul DC design with a reverse style six in line head stock but I have not decided yet. It will most definitely be a carved top.

And some pics of course

Nothing has arrived yet, I do have the Floyd, but thats not too exciting. I will post more pics when I receive everything. What do ya'll think?

Last but not least, for the neck pickup, what should I use?

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

Looking forward t this one bud, I also have started another build..

Put a yjm fury in the neck.

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

I would love to build one.. but, I dont have the room, the equipment, the patience, the money... the talent lol.

It's sounds awesome bro... can't wait to hear (and see) more about it...

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

Thanks! I'm extremely excited to get started, I will keep updates coming

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

I think those woods will work very well with each other color wise. There will be some very interesting color tone and shade difference between the Padauk and the other woods, as well as some color tone and shade similarity in the Walnut and Zebra that will work and play off of each other very nicely. Keep use updated!

I received both the veneer and the Padauk in the mail today! They look awesome together!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

My vote for the neck pickup is...

Nothing.

I think that those woods would look killer as a single pickup guitar and on top of that they tend to be more resonant which I imagine would help with it being a floyd rose and all.

If you have to put a neck pickup in it, IMO for the woods and configuration you're using a pgn fits the bill perfectly. IMO being paduk, and zebrawood, and a 25" scale, and a neck-thru, it probably won't sound like a strat even with a strat pickup up there. For a guitar like that, with a humbucker in the bridge too, I'd just go for a HH setup. The PGn is also my favorite wax-potted humbucker so I'm kind of biased actually.

Thanks! I think I will end up going with a PG because I already have on for one thing, and I also do love it with a passion. I'm thinking I'll do a 1vol+1tone setup with push-pull pots for both 'buckers

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

On a side note I decided to get a stainless upgraded Wilkinson instead of the Floyd, I think it will look better and I have heard great reviews of the Wilks'

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

push-pull being split or being series/parallel? IIRC you can do both split with a single push-pull - also I just realized the 57 may be single conductor?

I always like having separate volumes for each pickup so you can blend the two and even use one in series and the other in parallel without the former overpowering the latter. But 1 vol/1 tone you'd probably want to split both pickups at the same time - you can't really wire both in parallel at the same time with a single dpdt push-pull though, so maybe you could wire the first for series/split and the second for either (1) out of phase sounds, or (2) put the pickups in series/parallel with respect to one another.

The pearly gates splits well so it's a pretty good option if you want to try it. I've also had it in parallel but I prefer split honestly.

Now that you mention that I do think I'll go with a two vol, one tone setup

And the push-pulls would be for split wiring

Wilkinson in the mail, six in line locking hipshot tuners, and the neck should come in the next week or so! You might say I'm a little exited

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, its in the mail

I finished cutting/sanding the shape on my routing template, when the neck gets here I'll put the ready of the features, starting to get really excited here! I went with a shape I copied then modified from a Tobias Bass
