Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 50 watt head?

Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 50 watt head?

Thanx guys for all your input on this amp I'm really stoked about it, I forgot to mention it got signed by Tommy Chong in 96 aswell. As for you Glassman I'm moving down to your neck of the woods in about a week, so once I get my stuff unloaded I'll be hitting you up with this AOR. Does anybody know out there what is a good tube brand to use with these amps I hear this is 1 amp that is tube picky.

I can help you with all that, including tubes...I'm repairing tube amps full time now. I have new stock tubes as well as a ton of NOS ones to choose from...I'll just turn you loose bottle swapping until you find a combo you like.

Does anyone know what the approximate street value for these amps or what they sold for new??

Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 50 watt head?

+1 on the V30! This amp will Kill any amp out there through V30s. AOR = V30 that's the equation. If you know how to work your volume and tone knob and have the right pedal board - YOU ARE DONE. It will do all from Beatles to 80s metal and then some ...

Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 50 watt head?

I had one for four years from 1988-1992. I never was sold on it. Fickle is the word. The **** thing would never sound the same day to day and the preamp and tone controls had too much interactivity. If you changed the preamp settings the EQ would be screwed, if you changed the EQ the gain settings would be screwed, if you raised or lowered the volume the EQ would shift.

Their motto during that time was "Classic British Amplification" but it didn't really sound all that British to me? I was expecting a super tight, muscular and hard hitting Marshall clone, but instead I got a big, fuzzy, loose Mesa Boogie sound. The Laneys are good for playing big fuzzed out stoner and drone doom, but they are far too loose to play fast, tight palm muted metal. The best sounding example of the Laney AOR tone would be The Sword - Age of Winters.

It seems like all of the Shrapnel Records shredders had Laney endorsements back in the late 80's, like it was part of their contract? Alex Masi, Ritchie Kotzen, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore and Jason Becker. If Vinnie Moore did use one it doesn't change my opinion, which like any other Internet opinion plus $1.50 will buy you a double cheeseburger at McDonalds.

I know that Kotzen used one, but I did not know about Gilbert using AOR, he was with Laney and used VH series for a long time but I did not know about AOR, and I hear for the first time that Becker was and AOR guy. But dude, come on, you can not just bluntly say "nope, the palm mutes are as loose as crack slut and shred is tracked like crap on this Vinnie Moore recording" just because you have to stick to your opinion ...
