Latest pedal board incarnation...

GumbyLoveologist
I've been buying up a few new pedals in the constant ongoing search for better tone. Here's a pic of the latest incarnation of my pedal board. I did a gig with it last night and it was fantastic. Here's the list.

Teese RMC4 Picture Wah (out of shot)
Hermida Zendrive
Mad Professor Little Green Wonder
ZVex Box of Rock
Retro-Sonic Chorus Ensemble
Retro-Sonic Analog Delay
Demeter Tremulator
Ibanez DE-7 Delay
Triple true bypass looper
A/B switcher (for delays)

Re: Latest pedal board incarnation...

I've always got to hand it to you guys, where getting esoteric pieces like that are far more difficult to locate. You've got some primo pedals on that board.

Tomorrow, I might go down to Santa Monica to Truetone Music, a place that has nearly every pedal you could imagine. You'd love that store. They have nothing but the best guitars, boutique amps and pedals. It's like Disneyland for the true tone connoisseur.

I'm not sure if I'll get a new pedal.....probably not, but their Gibson Custom Shop Acoustic room is a place that's like heaven......it's literally a small room with nothing but $2500-$10K Gibson acoustics. I go there just for that room. Talk about a place to practice your acoustic chops!

Looks great! How do you like the BoR you got the other day?

Truetone sounds like a great place to hang out.

The BoR is filthy. It's replacing the Crunch Box, and although it has less available gain, it's a more convincing Marshall in a box, particularly for the old school Marshall tones I prefer. The real surprise package is the Little Green Wonder. Great tone, incredibly versatile pedal. The Retro-Sonic stuff is beautiful too.

I got the loop switcher from Loop-Master. He'll make anything you need to order. http://www.loop-master.com/

The Warwick boards are great. They're all powered up and ready to go, 5 x 9v and 1 x 12v. It comes with a gig bag, but I had a lightweight case made for it out of the old Ragone drum case material. 4 years of flying around and still going strong. The floor of the board is velcro ready.

Re: Latest pedal board incarnation...

Where did you get the Warwick board ,may i ask?

I got it from a buddy of mine who is the Oz Warwick distributor. You'd probably be able to pick one up at Billy Hyde's or similar. They definitely get distributed to retail here.

Very nice, I like it. :) I approve of dual delays, but where's the phaser or Vibe?

Is this running into the Champ?

Re: Latest pedal board incarnation...

Thanks WahWah; dumb me just remembered ,i bought my Ephi at a place that is also a dealership for "Warwick"and "Framus".

Yeah, I have to have the dual delays because the Retro-Sonic only goes up to 600ms, mind you it's beautiful DM-2 style analog delay all the way. I have to keep the DE-7 on the board for ONE SONG (!) in Daryl Braithwaite's set that needs a 650ms delay to match a sequencer loop intro.

Unfortunately the db gig doesn't call for any phaser or vibe, but the old 70's MXR's and MojoVibe can be dropped in for any gigs that require them. The Retro-Sonic Chorus is a spectacular clone of the CE-1, so it has the same vibrato side as the original, which gives a very convincing George Harrison style Leslie effect. I've got an original CE-1 that is way too bulky and temperamental to drag around to gigs, and this Retro-Sonic nails it.

Yes, it's all running into the Super Champ for gigs, but at home I've been playing it through my Rockbender. It's a very versatile little rig.

There you go. They will either have them or be able to get them. They do a roadcased version as well. The same guy who brings in Warwick brings in Framus as well. And Seymour Duncan, of course!

well they are the same company, essentially.

One of my guitars has a 60,s Framus LP shaped body.[and not origonal neck or pups etc.]It,s half hollow and has a different tone to a full solid , but not a semi-acoustic sound either.

Yeah, they've made some pretty good stuff over the years, haven't they. I've got a fairly recent Framus Ruby Riot 2 amp here that they lent me a couple of years ago. It's EL84's, kinda Vox-ish, but with a second channel that gets almost Marshally.

That sounds like a great hybrid guitar you've got there, some unique tones out of that one, no doubt.

Re: Latest pedal board incarnation...

What? No MI Audio?

I know, it's shocking isn't it? Do you think this might have a negative impact on my endorsement deal?

The Crunch Box may still make its way back on to the board, but not until I've given the Box of Rock at least a few more gigs. It's unlikely, because I had a whole band and FOH guy accosting me after the gig saying "What was that really driven sound? It was fantastic!" The drummer reckons he got the foldback guy to push me up in his send coz he was diggin' it so much! It was pretty large. The Box of Rock also has the advantage of a separate clean boost, which can be kicked in independently of the distortion. It does the 60's Marshall thing better than any pedal I've ever heard.

The Little Green Wonder is also going to be difficult to shift. It's just much more open than the Blue Boy, but at nearly twice the price, it oughta be. The coin toss is between the Zendrive and the Ulbrick 12AXE. They are pretty much interchangeable. In fact the Ulbrick is slightly more open, but the Zendrive is certainly a beautiful sound. The thing with all of these pedals is that they are 10 times more effective and beautiful at gig volumes. At home, they are very confronting, and in the case of the Box of Rock, downright rude.

32 years of gigs and I'm still learning. I'm either a very slow learner, or there is a lot to learn...
